Important Note
The house location is on the south-east edge of Nairobi National Park with no street name or formal address. However, AirBnB does not allow such irregularities so we have put in a park gate in Langata. Please contact us for a more detailed location.
SAGIJAJA was built specifically to provide tranquility and peace in natural surroundings far away from yet within sight of the hustle and madness of Nairobi.
On site & within 200m is a restaurant & bar built within an eco camp featuring regional & local fusion cuisine. The camp has a spectacular sunset deck open to AirBnB guests.
CREATIVITY - every corner has been designed by the owner to reflect his travels, connection with Kenya and his passions.
There's a outdoor kitchen/dining/seating deck with a boat as a plant holder….a glass topped wine spiral cellar stocked with world wines…….a respectable (alarmed and locked) gin and whisky bar with tipples from Ian Buxton’s ‘101 Whiskies to Try Before you Die’ …….a Stephen King collection of hard and soft backs collected over the decade…..master bedroom with a panoramic glass wall…….a tropical walk-in wet room with a glass roof………….
Local and regional materials have been sympathetically. The eucalyptus blue gum poles come from sustainable forests of Western Kenya……..the bar counters and cellar steps are palm wood from Mombasa…….the bathroom has a coral wall from the Indian Ocean…….mkonge sisal poles from Taita Hills provide partial shade to the nursery while Mazeras stone clad the solar power showers. Yet, in this traditional build where the door handles are twigs from fallen trees and the shower head is hidden in a calabash, modern touches abound. There is a 1.2m wide custom-designed South African braai; you can sip Afghani green tea in Denby crockery, or play a baby grand piano to play after having chosen a Pinotage from the wine cellar.

Remember You Are in Africa……..
SAGIJAJA aims to be warm, generous, genuine and hospitable. The home was built to have soul, character with a design unique to Africa so local artisans and materials have been used resulting in a quirky and idiosyncratic effect
We are also experiencing poor rainfall.......
Animals are dying. It is dry and can be quite dusty. We have community borehole water so please be careful with water usage
Some months have more mosquitos........
All rooms have mosquito nets - please use them!!! We also have mosquito plugs. Fortunately we have a lovely easterly breeze almost 24hrs so sitting outside is a pleasure where the mosquitos are far less troublesome
Our showers were and are solar.......
They still are but we've (reluctantly) had to put in an electric water heater to top up the temperature especially from June to Sept when the skies are cloudy. 30min heating gets your pressurised piping hot water. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SWITCH OFF THE HEATER especially if mains power outage switches to solar batteries
