We had a wonderful time in Garrykennedy and the surrounding area. The local people were very friendly. We did a lot of touring around (Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Doolin / Ferry to Aran Islands, Bunratty, Tipperary Countryside, Galway, Killarney, and would come back to the cottage and often have dinner at Larkins at the end of the day. They have traditional music on Wednesday and Sunday which is fun. We also went to Ciss Ryan's, which is the other pub in town without food, but friendly locals (cash only).
Cillian from Larkins is the local contact for the cottage who was very responsive to our needs which were minimal.
The cottage is cute and was great for our family with four modern showers and plenty of hot water once you figured it out. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of towels. The kitchen is small, but fine for our needs. It was good to have a washer, but challenging to dry the clothes, although for the most part we got lucky with the weather and did not have too much rain. We made fires out in the back patio a couple of nights which was a treat.
The living room furniture could use an update and the TV could be bigger (if that is s priority for you). The WiFi worked great.
For directions, ignore GPS and go to Portroe and follow signs for Larkins, otherwise you might end up traveling along very narrow roads through farms which would not be easy in the dark!
You can pick up basic supplies at Tara / Spar in Portroe. There is a Tescos, Aldi, Lidl and Centra in Nenagh.
For gourmet food and wine to bring home to the cottage, I highly recommend a stop at Country Choice in Nenagh. Peter will give you lots of recommendations for making a nice meal at home (meat pies, cheeses, salads, bread, home made jams, etc). There is also a small cafe in the back of the store.
We had a lovely time!
