Quintessential Chesapeake Cottage!
2 - 12岁

Our quaint, completely renovated cottage sits on 5 totally private acres of land with 350 feet of bay waterfront and its own private dock. The perfect place for cycling, crabbing, kayaking, birdwatching or just relaxing! 2br w/ queens + sofa sleeper

You will fall in love with the beauty of the Chesapeake in this truly serene setting located less than 2 hours from Washington, DC and Baltimore! It is so quiet at night that you can hear shorebirds and geese out on the water, and the wind blowing through the pines. It is completely private and a great place to get away from it all.

The house has 2br, each with a Queen bed, and one pull out couch with a full sized bed. Bedrooms are large enough to accommodate a child air mattress or crib. Living areas are generous with basic amenities (but who wants to be inside??).

The property has 350 feet of waterfront on Brannock Bay, an offshoot of the Chesapeake Bay. Brannock is shallow and perfect for crabbing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and swimming off the dock. If you have a larger boat, there is a deep water boat launch just down the road.

The property boasts 5 acres of grassy land - the perfect setting for your furry friends or little explorers to run and play! The property borders a 2-lane road that has maybe 5 cars/day on it.

The house was built in the 40's, all with wood from a now-defunct mill about a quarter mile away. We kept all the original wood floors, but the rest of the house underwent a top to bottom renovation to bring it into the modern age. When we bought this property it did not even have running water! It was truly a labor of love!

Guests are able to access the whole house and property! A key pad is available for self check-in.

We do not live nearby, but are available via email/phone should you experience any issues or have questions. Upon booking, we will email you an e-brochure with all kinds of information and recommendations for your stay.

This is a quiet community and a haven for wildlife. Guests are expected to not disturb our neighbors by hosting loud parties, lighting fireworks, etc. Sound carries easily over the water! Please respect the shore - this is a protected area for wildlife and we want to do our part to keep it pristine! Please pick up all trash and do not disturb bird nests or other wildlife.

Fishing and crabbing is permitted in small quantities (1 dozen crabs per stay max). No hunting is allowed.

Pets are permitted but must be approved in advance. No more than 2 dogs are allowed. Please no pets on the furniture or beds.

No smoking anywhere on the premises, including the dock and outdoor areas.

Note that we have a septic tank, so absolutely no waste aside from toilet paper should be flushed down the toilets. Thank you!

Quite and remote. If you are looking for a get away that has water access with little or no sound from neighbors, give this place a try. Prior to our arrival, the communication from Ashley was very good. Check in was easy and location was accurately given. The house is small as described but is basic for the ones who do not want all the frills of a hotel style set up. The two bedrooms are about the same size and bathroom (1), is adequate with limited storage. Kitchen has plenty of the basics but you may want to bring any special appliance above and beyond what is listed if you require extra food prep. There were plenty of towels and sheets on site. The backyard is great with comfy Adirondack chairs and nice fire pit. Plenty of charcoal and starter fluid for the weber grille as well. I would bring along some good bug spray as the mosquitos can be annoying if the wind dies down. You are on the water after all! We had Blackwater Paddle & Pedal Adventures drop off 2 kayak's for a three day rental than will run right at $295 total. Just make sure you go out in high tide as the marsh grass at low tide will only give you about 12 inches of draft. Not real fun if you want to paddle and get anywhere. The pier is nice although we did not use it for anything more that to let our dog jump off and swim with us while were rowing around. I would "highly" recommend getting your groceries at Walmart prior to arrival to the house as the Lewis General Store was a disappointment with nothing more than the VERY basic stuff, and that's probably overstating it. Highly recommend the Black Water Bakery for breakfast and very good coffee. We did not try any of the other places as we wanted to spend less time in the town area and more at the house. All and all we will be going back to this little gem for some more long weekends to appreciate the quiet atmosphere. Enjoy the nature as you will see plenty of birds including the Bald Eagle's.

We sat on the dock all day and by the bonfire all night. It is peaceful, quiet, and relaxing. The perfect getaway from DC. Our dog was in heaven as he had 5 acres of grass and trees to explore. We will be back!

Our vacation at the Quintessential Chesapeake Cottage was a wonderful opportunity for me to share my Eastern Shore memories with my family in a beautiful location strategically placed to easily access the ocean beaches and the delightful towns that make Maryland's Eastern Shore unique. Ashley was very communicative, explaining what we needed to know in advance and providing tips for how to make our stay as obstacle free as possible. The view from the dock is amazing. Every single photo Ashley provided is accurate; it truly is as beautiful as she depicts in the gallery spread. I would have been happy to spend every hour out there with our hound dog by my side. I taught my kids how to catch crabs using a handline and showed them the wonders of the wetlands/marsh environment (snails that cling to grass, turtles that doggy paddle, osprey couples that soar the skies and roost in the neighboring tall pines -- when can I go back?!?!!?). The home is clean, welcoming and well-furnished with comfortable seating and beds and a very user-friendly kitchen. Even though there is limited seating in the kitchen (understandably due to space), the table in the living room provides plenty of space for dining. Pop open a few of the folding chairs she provides and you've got enough at the table to accommodate 6. The AC and all other utilities worked as needed (in fact, the AC was at times a life saver on particularly humid afternoons). Our party consisted of 5 adults: mom and dad plus 3 adult children (ages 18-21). Ashley noted up front that the house is best suited for 4 adults, but provides the sofa sleeper for the extra. We found this limitation to be true especially in the mornings when everyone awakened at different times or if anyone needed to separate for a private phone call, etc. But for the most part, we managed. My adult kids also wished they'd been prepared for it being so remote -- a daily trip into Cambridge to check emails, etc., if necessary, was possible, but it wasn't practical to go in more than once or twice a day. (As for me, as I said, sitting out on the dock was all I needed to be content.) And finally: Believe me and the other reviewers when we say the mosquitos are a force to be reckoned with. Be prepared to live with a coating of your preferred form of repellant, but once you get into the routine, you'll realize the beauty and peacefulness of the surrounding property are worth it. I would definitely consider the Quintessential Chesapeake Cottage again for a future vacation.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our escape from the city for this quiet retreat on the choptank. Ashley was great to work with, with timely and thorough communications. The house is in very rural area and we saw bald eagles, great blue herons and egrets every day. The two bedrooms are good size with comfortable beds. Living room and kitchen with island table for eating. We spent every night with a fire in the fire pit watching the sun set. Black water paddle delivers kayaks so you can paddle around the choptank and if adventurous the Chesapeake bay. Be sure to do grocery shopping in Cambridge as that is closest food store. Be sure to bring bug spray once mosquitoes come out and watch out for ticks but then you surrounded by water and farmland.

If you are looking for a place to relax, unwind, and get away from reality for a bit, this house and location is for you! We brought our 4 kids for a few days of peace and it was fabulous. The house was just the right size and the property is rustic and beautiful. We stayed on the dock most of the day enjoying the sun and water. There's no Wifi and spotty cell service but for us that was the whole point. Can't wait to go back!

Great place for 2 couples and a dog! Ashley's place is just as pictured, fully stocked kitchen and all towels/linens provided. The dock is shear heaven and the dog loved it to. Remote location (perfect for what we wanted), 20 minutes from town. Very quiet at night and the stars were so bright, absolutely no light pollution and we saw the BEST heat lightening storm that lasted for over an hour. Pretty amazing. Perfect location to unwind and unplug. Also, Ashley is a great communicator and wonderful to work with! I would definitely return!

Wonderful cottage with everything you need for a family getaway. The land is absolutely beautiful and quiet. We brought our kayaks and dogs. Did a lot of exploration. A minor snafu with the trash collection was fixed by Ashley. Loved that a neighbor flies his plane in and out of his home from his own runway. Our dogs were very happy there, except for the ticks. Make SURE you and your dog(s) is/are protected from ticks - we really had a hard time with this, but that's the price you pay for being bay front in mid-July. A bug heads up would have helped. We loved it here and hope to return!
