Room with private bathroom in large and characterful writer's home in the ancient village of Robertsbridge. Ideally sited for walking, cycling and exploring in the glorious Sussex High Weald - and for sampling the delights of the on-site organic café
The house is light and airy with high ceilings and loads of space and character, including a spectacular stairwell over three floors. Every bedroom has a bow window set within a curved wall, and has been restored with an eye for period style. The private guest bathroom is adjacent to the guest bedroom, and features a luxuriously spacious shower with excellent water-pressure. Overall, the house reflects the owners' passion for books, pictures, and lovely old things. It's a lived-in house, with all the quirks of a two-centuries-old building and some minor restoration still ongoing, so don't expect pristine paint surfaces or hotel-style conformity. That said, we can usually offer a choice of beds - soft mattress or firm, double or king - and pillows, as we're quite fussy about those! All bedlinen is high-end 100 per cent cotton.
Guests are welcome to use our Wifi, or watch the television in the music room. Accomplished pianists may ask to play the Steinway model B grand piano. Tea and coffee, light lunches and snacks are available between 8am and 5pm in the organic bakery a few steps from the front door. Your airBnB breakfast will be offered in the café.
The host is happy to make recommendations for your stay, or leave you to your own devices. We have waterproof jackets and wellies in a range of sizes to lend if you've come unprepared and want to sample one of the fabulous round walks accessible from our front door. We can lend a book with detailed directions, too.
The owners also own and run the popular village bakery and coffee shop - it occupies one corner of the ground floor, but from inside the house you don't know it's there. It sells organic artisan bread, croissants, patisserie, Italian coffee and other delicious things. Your Airbnb breakfast will be taken in the shop (a mere few steps from the front door), or, weather permitting, at one of the outdoor tables on the High Street. Equally, you may take your café breakfast in the verdant and secluded garden.
