Beautifully renovated farmhouse with 11 x 4m heated inground swimming pool, huge secluded garden, stay for a minimum of 3 nights. More rooms available on request.
This beautiful 250 year old Farmhouse has been lovingly restored with attention to detail. It is our family home, so don't expect cool perfection, but mismatched crockery, a fully equipped kitchen and stocked larder with condiments for the enthusiastic chef. There is a comfortable living room with a unconnected TV and DVD player (we watch TV on our computers, cables to hook them into the TV are provided), fast wireless internet (well, fast for rural France), a huge wild garden with old trees, a trampoline and swing and a 11 x 4m inground saltwater swimming pool, which we keep at 27 degrees for perfect swimming even on cooler days in spring or autumn. The pool has an electric hard cover which complies to French safety regulations, but as we have no fence and gate around the pool we do not recommend the property for families with small children. There is one bedroom with a very comfortable double bed (cot available) and a rocking chair that you can move to the balcony for sunset cocktails. The shower is a wet room with a lovely hot rain shower. Just outside the kitchen is a bench for morning coffees, and a large table and chairs for outdoor dining.
We currently let out the groundfloor and upper ground floor, and all the garden. The barn has not been fully restored yet, and as the first floor with further bedrooms is only accessible up steep temporary stairs through the barn, so we have decided that for now, it's safer that way. The property is suitable for couples or a family with a baby (travel cot provided). You will have 1 bedroom, 1 living room, one shower room and one toilet, hallway, storage, big kitchen diner and an acre of garden surrounding the house.
We will be in the UK, but there will be an english speaking person nearby who can help you should you encounter any problems. We are also available by phone.
Someone takes care of the garden and pool, and every effort is taken that this does not interfere with your stay. However, it can happen that for example due to rain prior to your arrival the lawn could not be cut - in that case we will let you know and be as discreet as possible.
As this is a whole house and we need to employ someone to clean on either end, the minimum stay is 3 nights. We have all sorts of outdoor toys, bicycles in the garage and a big trampoline that you are free to use. This is deepest rural France, so occasionally the main switch of the (completely newly rewired) electricity trips, and you may need to make a trip to the garage to switch it back on. Our cats catch plenty of mice (the cats live with us in the UK and just come on holidays with us), so be aware that you might meet little mice, gli glis (edible door mice, the most adorable creatures) and hear plenty of owls at night time. Occasionally you might even encounter a koipu (a herbivorous, semiaquatic rodent). They are very shy and harmless.
This is our home, and we hope that you treat it with respect. If you happen to break something, leave a note. The property has a septic tank, so absolutely nothing other than toilet paper must be thrown into the toilets (no leftover foods, kitchen rolls, tampons etc), as this will result in a very smelly blockage. We have plenty of family heirlooms in the house, so we'd ask you that, if something is locked in a cupboard, you don't use it: For example a 100 year old bohemian coffee service or the family crystal - not hugely valuable, but impossible to replace. Please don't smoke inside the building, and use ashtrays outside. Close the pool cover at night time (it keeps the pool frog free and warm), and follow the instrutions. If you are unsure about something, call us. Unlike some hosts we encoutered in the past, we won't charge for small breakages - accident do happen. But if something is broken due to neglect or because instructions weren't followed, we will keep the appropriate amount of the deposit. I am sure that will never happen with you as our guest :-)
We are a family of 4, Deryk, my husband is a GP, I am a yoga teacher (hence the yoga studio in the home) with 2 lovely daughters, 11 and 13 years old. We rent out our home when we go to spend time in our second home in France, which is during all school holidays, so you probably wouldn't meet us. When you are in the house you will see that we love art and books. My life motto? Be nice.
Hope you like our home and contact me if you have any questions.
