Welcome to Little George, a light-filled 3 level home in vibrant Fitzroy filled with comfy furnishings and vintage touches. This has been my home for 15 years and I love living here - I hope you'll enjoy visiting, it's nice to have you!
This listing is for all of Level 3 in my large 3 level home just off the wonderful Gertrude Street, comprising double bedroom, private ensuite, wee study & balcony.
(I have 2 rooms available - the other listing is 'Fabulous Fitzroy, Gorgeous Gertrude' listing #150729).
This is an excellent spot for guests in Melbourne for a short time who want to live like a local. Or for those lucky folk who are moving to Melbourne (nice choice!) it's a great landing pad while you look for something permanent.
Located in between action-packed Brunswick and Smith Streets, this is a fantastic, diverse area full of great cafes, restaurants, wonderful local pubs, art galleries, parks, live music venues, decent architecture and the Melbourne Museum. The beloved #86 tram (our 'tramily') and #12 are just at the end of the road giving easy access to other parts of this wonderfully liveable city.
The house has all the mod cons mixed in with vintage collectables. And rare in Melbourne in that it is very light and bright.
Guests are welcome to help themselves to the dining room, lounge room and balconies on Level 2, as well as the kitchen which has organic breads & from our local Fatto A Mano organic bakery (where I work part-time). If you want to cook there are some basics in the cupboard above the oven and herbs in the garden to get you started and plenty of cupboard & fridge space.
Breakfast - help yourself to the organic breads, spreads, juice, bonsoy & fair-trade teas and coffee. The kitchen lights are tucked between the linen cupboard and the kitchen wall, on the dining room side. Bins are under the kitchen sink.
As I Airbnb the front room on the ground floor of the house, you might see me, or other guests, in the kitchen or elsewhere on Level 2. But no-one comes to Melbourne to "cook and watch TV" so it's likely you might not see any of us at all (but you are welcome to cook and watch tv!).
FROM THE AIRPORT - I recommend "StarBus Airport Shuttle" which brings you right into Fitzroy, operating from 5am till 7pm, 7 days. Cut and paste StarBus Airport Shuttle into your search engine for more info. Or a taxi for approx $60 is the fastest.
Fitzroy is a wonderful, diverse, energetic area. Needless to say, I love it here, I'm sure you will too!
Smoking: strictly outside on the dining room balcony only please, with the doors closed :)
Children: not suited sorry
Guests: please check with myself and other Airbnb guests first
Level 1 - front door access and laundry (my rooms and other guest room)
Level 2 - shared dining room, lounge, kitchen & 2 large balconies
Level 3 - your own bedroom, bathroom, wee balcony & study
This is a very independent set up. My rooms and another guest room is on Level 1. We are all usually out and about enjoying Melbourne so it can be rare we run into each other but I'm always contactable on my phone :)
It's a good idea to check Melbourne's weather report before you arrive, we really can have "all seasons in 1 day" so it's wise to bring something warm even for those summer nights. I recommend the app 'Weatherzone'.
Help yourself to the umbrellas at the bottom of the stairs!
- Please call out 'hi!' or 'bye!' when you use the front door, it's nice to know who's coming and going
- Please ensure the front door is always locked and used gently
- The records, the alcohol and the kitchen cabinets with rubber bands on them are just for my personal use, thank you :)
- Contact me if you need anything at all, I'm often not here but never far from my phone :)
Hi there. I'm originally from New Zealand but moved to Melbourne 17 years ago.
Like most people who arrive in this wonderful city we think we are going to move on, but as soon as we get here ... well, there are reasons no-one ever wants to leave! I was lucky enough to find this great house in the best part of Fitzroy so here I still am. I have a habit of collecting things hence all the vintage love around the house. Over the last decade+ I've shared my home with hundreds people from all around the world. Things I can't live without? Friends, freedom, Fitzroy... If you think my home sounds like your kind of pad I'd love to hear from you and know what brings you to Melbourne.
