Welcome travelers &/or musicians to Purple House PDX and Portland, Oregon; the ONLY U.S. city to be ranked in the top 25 most livable cities in the world!
Nestled in the trees, this close-in RESIDENTIAL, private, homey, and spacious studio apartment is the perfect home base to relax, replenish, & explore ALL Portland has to offer. Free parking and just one street away from great public transportation.
Also a really great place for you to fill the air with your live music!
The 8 x 10 private balcony beckons you to sit outside surrounded by trees and overlooking our flower and vegetable garden as you listen to water fountain, enjoy the hummingbirds in the fuchsias, and the distant sound of our neighbor's rooster or tree frogs. Our yard is enclosed by a brand new cedar fence for added privacy.
A ceiling fan and heat pump/air conditioner keep you comfortable year round.
While we absolutely LOVE how sun drenched Purple House is, we have thermal panel drapes that block out light; just in case you want to sleep in.
There is full laundry room with washer and dryer and an over-sized drying rack system are in a shared space, just steps away.
We have a cupboard full of games for all ages and a handcrafted Mancala game table. A bookshelf full of books, CDs, DVDs and even a few vinyl records to enjoy.
If you just want to use Purple House PDX as a rehearsal space, it has comfortably fit up to 18 big band musicians (and lots of "groupies"), for regular rehearsals.
It has also been the Portland base for The Rad Trads when they come in from New York to play at The Waterfront Blues Festival. There is a pearl drum set, various percussion and other instruments, music stands, a electric guitar with an amp, as well as an acoustic guitar. A full sound system, including mics and stands, may also be available to rent separately.
Purple House PDX is a separate, upstairs, studio apartment, with your own private entry and 24/7 access. There is a keyless entrance code, personalized for each guest for security and easy access.
There is parking for one guest car in the driveway, right next to the stairway up to the apartment. There is ample on-street parking if you have more guests with cars.
Motion detection lights and dawn-dusk purple twinkle lights make sure that your entry is well-lit and safe, no matter what time you come home.
The laundry room and over-sized, becoming tamed yard, are shared. Make sure to give us notice BEFORE going into the back yard so we can make sure our dogs are put inside.
Whenever possible, we like to welcome each guest personally when you first arrive. However since the studio is in a totally separate apartment with a completely private entrance, you'll be able to come and go as you'd like. We're available to help you in person or by phone/text as much or as little as needed. We'd like you to think of us as your non-intrusive, but helpful neighbors and hosts that are invested in YOU as you explore your new home.
We have made dear friends from all over the world and enjoy sharing our love for Portland and the great Pacific NW with others. As schedules permit, we're also happy to visit a bit, share a cup of tea/coffee or even homemade Pinot Noir or home-brew; even play music together. However, we are totally invested in respecting your privacy; so, it's really your call.
While we love dogs and love it when we are able to go to a place and take our dogs, we decided to keep the apartment completely dog/pet free out of respect for people with allergies.
Our dogs are down in our separate house and are not even allowed in the shared laundry room. Both are rescue dogs; one is an older gal and the other is a new 85 lb. 5 y/o "galoot' of a black lab. No doubt you'll hear them at times when you're coming in and out.
IF you need a "dose" of a dog, we'd be happy to invite you along on their walks. PLEASE let us know BEFORE going into the fenced yards. We will make sure to bring them inside so you don't accidentally startle them.
Taking a day trip to the coast? We belong to Coronado Shores, which is between Lincoln City and Newport at the Oregon Coast. Ask us and we can give you a guest pass to use the clubhouse with pool during the summer. (Closed Mondays.)
We want your stay to be as comfortable as possible. We also want our future guests to be just as comfortable, so it's simple. Please respect us, our space, and musical instruments, and hopefully this goes without saying; NO illegal activities on our property. Also, for everyone's safety, no one under 18 is allowed to stay alone here.
Purple House PDX is a NO Smoking or vaping INSIDE space; If you are a smoker of anything, this being Portland after all and 420 friendly, please do it safely OUTSIDE with the doors closed to make sure it doesn't smell inside. Please empty ashtrays and cigarette butts safely into the outside metal trash can by the driveway.
PLEASE NOTE- Out of consideration for people allergic to smoke and respect for us so we can keep our promise that this is a smoke-free space, IF the place smells like smoke of any kind, you will lose much of your security deposit. How much will depend on costs to dry clean the drapes, wash down walls, clean the carpets, etc.
We want your stay at Purple House PDX to be YOUR home away from home and welcoming to your friends, too. But please note; ONLY those registered guests (FIVE maximum- it's the law) are allowed to stay past the quiet hours. Registered guests are completely responsible for visiting guests. We will need names, D.O.B, and contact information for all guests and visitors in advance. Only registered guests and registered visitors are allowed at Purple House PDX during your stay. If you meet someone during your trip that you'd like to invite over; great! Portland is very friendly. Just let us know in advance and give us their contact information and D.O.B. Extra charges may apply if they end up staying over night with permission.
