Our large, renovated house is located in traditional farming land in the hills above Aigio, which lies 30 min. south of Parta. Simple, spacious house that can accommodate 6 and beautiful surroundings with plenty to do and beaches 20 min. drive away.
Renovated traditional stone house with modern facilities and breathtaking mountain and sea views in Peloponnese, Greece. The house is located in the relatively remote village of Mirovrisi , nestled in traditional rural hills overlooking the Gulf of Corinth. Although there are no shops in Mirovrisi, it is about 20 min. (11 km) from the coastal resort town of Selianitika, where you will find all you need in terms of shopping facilities as well as beaches (no sand, only pebble -see pictures), restaurants and cafes. Aigio is a larger town close by with a better choice of supermarkets (such as Lidl and Carrefour) and shops, restaurants, bars or night clubs. Both Selianitika/Aigio lie on the main motorway between Athens (2 h drive) and Patra (30 min drive). A car is required for daily life if you want to be active and not just laze around the house.
Upper level: I large living room (about 50 m²) with semi-open kitchen (9 m²) and small bathroom with shower. Insulated roof means no air conditioning required. Lower level: 1 large (15 m²) and two smaller (2 x 11 m²), bedrooms that remain cool for sleeping in summer. Bathroom with large shower and double sink.
Outside: 3 stone floored terraces (20 m², 40 m² and 10 m²) facing north. One additional south facing terrace (25 m² with wooden flooring) above car parking place. Stone paved garden with tables and large BBQ and fantastic views to the sea (especially nice from the hammock under the tree).
House equipment and furnishings:
Solar water heating. Dishwasher, conventional oven, hob, microwave oven and large American-style fridge/freezer. Automatic coffee machine (requires whole beans). Extra wash-room with large sink and washing machine. All bed linen and towels are available. 1 double bed (bedroom 1), 1 double sofa bed (bedroom 2) and twin beds - (bedroom 3). An additional built-in single bed, a couch and a large dining table (for up to 10) are present in the living room. Additional terrace furniture available. Modern HiFi with iPhone4/iPod/iPad dock. Flat-screen display with built-in DVD player and USB plug for movies. Reasonably good 3G mobile connectivity in region.
No water shortages in summer. 20 min drive to local shops, restaurants and beaches (beaches have showers!). Mountain roads require careful driving, but easy to navigate and wonderful views. Excellent trekking and mountain bike region. Snorkeling, scuba diving, kite-surfing wind-surfing, rafting, canoeing as well as skiing in winter months nearby. Neighbors really friendly and helpful - If you show interest and enthusiasm (and especially if you have children!), be prepared to receive home grown vegetables (never refuse...).
Share our joy of discovering this unspoiled region (only when we cannot make it out however...).
A separate guesthouse is not yet available for guests.
The whole area is rich with vineyards and olive trees and is always green due to the plentiful water supplies, even in summer months.
The famous archaeological sites of Delphi, Olympia and Epidaurus are only 2 hours drive away. For the winter season, a ski center is 1 hour drive away. The area is also great for mountain activities such as climbing, mountain biking and hiking. The lake caves at Kastria are well worth a visit, as is a trip up the Vouraikos gorge with the cog railway (starting at Kalavrita: (URL HIDDEN) Local beaches are pebble, not sand. There are many different ones all the way along the coast, some of which are more isolated and some more lively and good e.g. for kids. They almost always have several showers to rinse after a dip. The sandy beaches north of Patra, near Araxos airport, are worth a visit even if you do not like sand - the surrounding landscape is beautiful.
You need to have a car as local transport in this relatively remote area is infrequent. There is plenty of space to park the cat near the village square, about 50m from the house. A parking place at the rear of the house is available however nor suitable for oversize cars due to the narrow access street.
Access to main house, wash room, all 4 terraces, Garden and BBQ. No access to guest house.
email, telephone (mobile), facetime (iPhone), SMS etc.

A car is required as the village is relatively remote (20 min. drive to shops, cafes, restaurants and beaches). 1 hour round trip to the beach or the shops. Only pebble beaches nearby, sandy beaches are available for a day trip (on the west coast of the Peloponnese, about 1h-2h drive!).
We do not really want to list things that you should or should not do - this mentality does not fit to the relaxed, stress-free time we expect you to have. However we would nevertheless appreciate if you do not smoke inside the house. Also, for safety reasons, it is not advisable to use the open fire in the house, unless, of course, needed in the colder months. Importantly, it should be noted that in Greece toilet paper must NOT be flushed down the toilet due to blockage (bins are available for toilet paper). An English speaking neighbor has a key of the house in case of emergency and will inspect the house prior to arrival and after departure of guests. We charge guests € 50 for the cleaning.
I am Scottish, married to Sophie, who is French, and we live in Germany with our 3 children, Louis (b. 1999), Emma (b. 2002) and Zoe (b. 2006).
We are both Biologists, I work in cancer research (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, KIT) and Sophie teaches at the European School in Karlsruhe. We visited friends in the Peloponnese and bought the house in Mirovrissi in 2011 because we fell in love with the place, the people and the way of life. We have discovered a place to switch off and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. The renovations are finished for the main house (see the photos) but minor interior work still ongoing in the guest house. We want others to enjoy the use of the house when we are not there.
