This elegant family home is perfectly situated in a quiet, charming village on the banks of the Dordogne river and is 45 minutes from Bordeaux and Bergerac and just 15 minutes from gorgeous St Emilion.
This stunning grand family home is currently in the process of being lovingly restored - preserving the character and beauty whilst creating a comfortable and contemporary haven in the French countryside.
On the ground level there is a large entrance hall, formal living room, formal dining room (seating up to 10 people), kitchen, toilet and laundry and downstairs bedroom (2 x single beds). Follow the grand stone staircase up to the next level and you will find two large master bedrooms (each with king beds), another large bedroom with french doors opening onto balcony (queen bed), a double bedroom with stunning garden and pool views (double bed), a twin single room (2 x single beds) and a second living area perfect for kids. On this level there are 2 x bathrooms, both with bath and shower - there is also a separate WC on this level.
Enjoy dining 'al fresco' on the large entertaining terrace or laze away the days beside the 12m heated pool on the luxurious oversized sun beds. The house is surrounded by 2 hectares of private gardens, a fruit orchard, well stocked vegetable garden and huge sun drenched wild flower meadow. We also keep 5 hens (Patsy, Rusty, Henny Penny, Shelby and Neal) who provide unbelievably delicious fresh eggs every day! Please feel free to help yourself to any of the produce from the property during your stay (we have a caretaker who will take care of chickens and tend to the vegetable garden so all you need to do is relax and enjoy!)
PLEASE NOTE: As previously mentioned, this house is in the process of being renovated, so some rooms have been fully updated while others are still a work in progress. The kitchen and bathrooms are still in an older 70's style, but are clean, comfortable and totally functional - they are also quite charming in their old-school style! We are very happy to answer any questions you might have, or provide additional photos of specific rooms if you would like to see them.
The property is only available for a few weeks during the summer months and only to those who are happy to treat our home with the love and respect that you would your own.
Guest have access to the entire house and surrounding gardens. The adjoining barns are not particularly usable, but guests are free to explore (carefully) and use for storage of bikes, etc.
We will contactable throughout your stay by telephone and email and have a caretaker nearby who will be able to help in case you need it during your stay.
We are more than happy to recommend things to do, places to visit and what to get where during your stay.
This is our family home, so we ask that you treat it with care and respect. Specifically:
- Please do not smoke inside the house
- No noisy parties and keep outdoor music to respectful level, especially late at night - we have wonderful neighbours who are great friends and we'd like to keep it that way!
- Sorry, no pets
I'm New Zealander who has made Sydney, Australia my home for the past 20 years. I live with my husband and two young boys and we are fanatical, serial house renovators! We love transforming old 'ugly duckling' houses back into beautiful, liveable spaces. I am also a passionate foodie and avid traveller, two things I love to combine.
At the moment, we are indulging all of these passions - living in the Southwest of France and renovating a beautiful old 'Maison de Maitre' in a tiny village on the Dordogne River.
