Our house and studio are on a charming residential street in Eugene's historic neighborhood, the Whiteaker. We also rent them separately under Cozy Craftsman in the Whiteaker and Whiteaker Studio under the Roses.
A 1907 Craftsman, the house was remodeled in 2006 to add new decks, two patios, a second bathroom, both a gas and wood stove and other comfortable amenities. Located on quiet 5th Avenue, but just a block from the Whit’s commercial district at Blair Blvd, we enjoy the best of urban life while still retaining privacy. We have a large backyard where you can dine outdoors surrounded by espaliered fruit trees, roses, and a profusion of greenery and color.
The house has two bedrooms: one with a pillow-top queen bed, and one with a twin daybed -- which is actually in the library. The living room has a pullout couch for which we provide a memory foam. The studio is a freestanding structure in the backyard with a queen bed, bathroom and small kitchenette area. We also have a covered sleeping porch with a full size foam mattress for sleeping outside when the weather is warm. Combined, the house and studio can accommodate from five (very comfortably) to up to 8 or 9, if you don't mind using the pullout couch and/or want to sleep under the stars on the sleeping porch.
The Whiteaker, long famous as an artistic and free-spirited enclave, is home to many beloved Eugene institutions such as Sam Bond’s Garage (music venue and pub), Sweet Life Patisserie, Fisherman’s Market, New Day Bakery, and Red Barn organic grocery. Recently, it’s attracted attention as a fast-growing commercial district and magnet for hip, new eateries including the Pizza Research Institute, Izakaya Meiji (mostly Japanese but mainly focusing on small plates of various types), Papa’s Soul Food Kitchen, the tiny sushi spot Mame, the new, popular Grit Restaurant featuring all local food, a gourmet taco place Tacovore, and many other new locales. Eugene's emerging brewery district is also here, anchored by Ninkasi and now joined by other craft brewers Oakshire, Hop Valley, and Falling Sky. All these are within easy walking distance.
If you stay in the Whit, you’ll be charmed and entertained – and you may not need to get into a car during your entire visit. The area is very walk and bike friendly – in fact, 5th Ave is a biking route. Straight down 5th a few blocks east toward downtown is the toney 5th St. Public Market with more popular shops. We are about five minutes drive to downtown and 10 minutes from the U of O on Eugene’s eastern flank, each also easily accessible via bike. In addition, Eugene’s famous river-bike path is just four blocks away.
Be aware, however, that urban neighborhoods can get noisy. While the house is isolated from the daily foot and street traffic on commercial Blair Blvd., we are close to a public park which can get busy with activities.
We will have left by the time you arrive.
No smoking or pets in the house or studio, please. No pets on the property.

I'm a tech writer for a local software company, and Kent's a (semi) retired and current adjunct professor at OSU. I love gardening and recently finished the Master Gardener program here in Eugene. Kent's an avid cyclist and involved in the local biking community. Together, we share a passion for boating and whenever we can, we're on, in, or near the water.
We moved to the Whiteaker in 2006 and love this neighborhood. We hope our guests will enjoy our home as much as we do.
