We're between Rt 116 and Rt 9, on the latter route a few miles away is The Old Creamery Cooperative general store, where you can stock up on groceries, deli sandwiches & prepared meals, crafts, and news! This is a rural area, so expect minimum 15 minutes' drive to the closest town, but there's a lot to enjoy right here. **PLEASE FILL YOUR GAS TANKS coming through bigger towns en route - Ashfield, Williamsburg & Windsor have funky rural stations with limited hours and each are 15+ minutes. **Directions, my contact information, & other important messages will appear *AFTER* you book under "Directions", "House Manual" and "House Rules". PLEASE REFER TO THEM & USE MY DIRECTIONS TO ARRIVE HERE - DO NOT RELY ON GPS, ROAD SIGNS OR MAPS.
Skyland is in Plainfield only a half mile from Earthdance and 9 Mountain Retreat Center. Both the Creamery and Earthdance have poetry readings, dance performances, classes in tasting wine, cheese, olive oils, vinegars, chocolate; Earthdance has a fantastic listing of workshops year-round.
Buses & trains can bring you to Northampton, Pittsfield, or Springfield, but you will need a car to get here & about.
This room has: Queen bed, bureau, three chairs with end tables, bookcase, closet with shelves, two windows, DVD/VCR, fan, clock, candles, flashlights, mirror, large table with shelves, beautiful oriental wool rug.
All common spaces: kitchen, living areas, bathrooms, and the patio outdoors.
If I'm available I'm happy to be a resource for local places for food, art, music, and always glad to learn about other people's lives.
I'm the last house on a dead end road. DO NOT RELY ON GPS. Please print & follow my directions. The cat does not go outside. She is feisty so please don't let yourself get bitten or scratched. Please be conservative with electricity, heat & water. We prefer you ask Erik or myself to adjust the wood stoves. We are committed to producing as little waste as possible - the kitchen has a compost bin, paper recycling bin, and bin for recycling plastic, glass, aluminum. Please err on the side of recycling rather than disposing in the trash.
This is a rural setting with a spring as our water supply and a septic system. Water use must be modified accordingly. Cell & wifi don't erase as they would in an urban center.
I'm originally from Providence RI and have lived in western Mass more or less since college, with stints in Newburyport MA and Somerville MA. I've lived at this house in the hilltowns since 2000. I work as an ASL-English interpreter in private practice, specializing in court interpreting throughout New England and am away often for work. My partner Erik has lived with me since June 2007, does all the maintenance on the property and is here most of the time. We have a cat, Kira, a tortoiseshell fixed female.
I have stayed with friends and friends of friends when I travel, and always prefer a home to a hotel. For several years we've rented out rooms for overflow guests at the two retreat centers down the street, and Airbnb is a natural extension of that. We are happy to have folks share our space and make themselves comfortable here. Both Erik & I are very involved in the LGBTQ community as friends and allies and welcome same-gendered couples in our home. I'm fluent using ASL and using videophone, so Deaf people will have complete access here as well.
I look forward to meeting new people and having folks enjoy this place as much as we do.
