Set amidst peach orchards, with views of the foothills and distant ridges of Mount Canigou, Mas St. Joseph is a haven of peace. Built in 1790 as the living quarters for the adjacent monastery, the property retains much of its original character but has the added comfort of a Moroccan style courtyard/patio area with swimming pool, perfect for balmy evenings. There is also a BBQ available for guests use. Breakfast is served either on the patio (weather permitting) or in the entrance hall.
This double room has lovely exposed stone work and views towards Mount Canigou (the sacred mountain of Catalonia). It has a Queen size double bed, big screen TV, with satellite channels, DVD player, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a spacious en-suite shower room with WC. It is ideal for a couple seeking a romantic holiday.
Guests have access to the swimming pool and adjacent patio where breakfast is served. When the weather is cooler, breakfast is served in the entrance hall. Evening meals can also be provided on request either on the patio or indoors.
Both Adrian and Kate are available to offer advice about things to do and places to visit in the area, and also enjoy swapping stories about travel into remote and far flung places. Both Adrian and Kate speak French (and a few words of Spanish!).
We have two small dogs who are very friendly and full of fun.
We ask that guests do not smoke in the house, but there are plenty of areas outside where smoking is permitted. Please also be considerate of other guests.
I spent most of my adult life overseas in Africa, California and Australia, in varied occupations ranging from development worker to entrepreneur, and filmmaker to academic. However, I always dreamed of eventually finding a haven in the south of France, and feel blessed in putting down roots here in the Pyrenees Orientales. Kate and I love introducing guests to this special corner of France, and we have been so lucky in receiving wonderful guests from all parts of the world. We love to share experiences and swap stories especially after a pleasant meal on our front terrace with views stretching to Mount Canigou.
