Lovely house with attached shed, separate barn. In South Montville, a quiet family spot near the C.G. Fair: Living room, dining room, study and sweet eat-in kitchen; 1 BR and the bath on ground floor, 3 BR's on the 2nd. Rear screen porch, front porch. Washer, drier. Beautiful light. Nearby fields, woods, river.
Nice swimming and small boating close by in ponds and lakes.
This house was built in 1843. Most of the original details and character are intact today. (But we put in electricity, running water, a bathroom - and replaced the hand pump that was in the kitchen sink!) Trues Pond and St Georges River flows along the west edge of our property. Certain weeks of the summer the Maine Fiddle Camp is held at the other end of the pond.
This is a good place to explore on foot, by bike, canoe, kayak or car. And at night the stars are bright in the open clear sky.
You would have full use of our house, which we usually use all summer. In addition to the kitchen, the dining room and the screen porch are also comfortable places to eat. There is a writers shed we built recently in the woods nearby, and if you seek solitude this is available. Near Belfast, Augusta and Unity, Maine. Waldo County is full of music, good gardening, beautiful open land and woods.
We are normally there at this beautiful time of year but have been invited to an artist residency abroad.
A nearby friend will act as host as we will not be there. Available by the week. Saturday is the normal start day.
There are 2 houses on the same driveway. The shingled house is a summer rental every year. The white one is where we live.
We have loved (and worked on) these houses for 40 years and come every summer.
Very green! Enjoy our clothesline, compost heap and healthy air.
Quiet. Many birds and other wildlife.
Please - care for the house as you would the home of anyone you care about. No smoking in house or on porch. No use of wood stove or fireplace, unfortunately, as our insurance prohibits it. Shower is in bathtub, so step carefully in and out. There is an outdoor shower as well, delightful in warm weather. Enjoy your time.
A very well behaved dog or cat is negotiable; please ask.
We are both free-lance artists, met as students long ago. We share many interests including human rights, gardening, history and of course the arts...films, opera, blues, modern dance, good painting and photography. Emily has taught for many years; Will loves building and has restored several houses with Emily's help. He's also restoring old cars. (His Model T is running now.) Our family includes a daughter and her husband and their two young sons, as well as our own siblings and their families.
Emily is an active member of a Friends (Quaker) meeting in the city.
We've stayed as guests in airbnb places in Europe, which have been terrific. We enjoy hosting too.
