Colletta is a mediaval village that we abandoned in the 1950s. Rescued from a ruin in the 1990's, Colletta is a gem set among stunning wild mountains and peaceful olive groves, with the bright lights of the Italian riviera only a short drive away.
Colletta di Castelbianco is a medieval village rescued from a ruin in the 1990s. Nestled a few kilometres from the coast of the Italian riviera in the lush green mountainous hinterland of the Pennavaire valley. The valley is lightly touched by development and there are excellent walks along ancient mule paths through olive groves or mountain forests. The local restaurants provide the best of Italian and Ligurian cuisine, plus the valley is also a center for rock climbing and mountain biking.
Colletta was gradually abandoned by its traditional inhabitants, it had fallen into picturesque ruins by the mid 1900's. Today, the stone houses and narrow streets have been totally restored and the windows look out once more over the olive and cherry terraces of the valley. In 2007 Colletta was selected to be included as one of the exclusive "Borghi piu belli d'Italia" ( Most beautiful villages in Italy).
The restoration of the village has been quite unique in Italy, as it combines both a respect for the aesthetics of the ancient stone arching staircases and vaulted ceilings whilst discreetly incorporating contemporary high technology. The apartments are entirely cabled for high speed broadband internet and digital TV, enabling residents and guests to access the latest technology for telecommuting or entertainment.

Outdoors on the terrace and in the garden, there are tables and chairs for al fresco dining with stunning views. The well maintained garden and lawn includes flowerbeds, kitchen herbs, climbing roses and a shady olive tree. A 150m stroll down the hill brings you to the associated olive grove, with a private picnic table and there are often fresh cherries ready to eat from the tree.

The car park is 50m above the village but you can stop your car at the service road below the village to unload your luggage. Flat shoes are recommended.

I'm an Australian frequent traveller both alone and with my wife Jan. Travel used to be mostly for fun, now it is mostly for work (computing). I prefer BnB style to hotels because I just don't need my room cleaned every day and I hate the uniformity (2 double beds and a TV in the cupboard) that means you could be anywhere in the world.
I used to live in Italy and own an apartment there, which is listed on this site.
