Perfect for a couple, small family, or traveling with friends. This is your opportunity to have the best of both worlds: experience the real Brooklyn, with easy access to the hippest parts of Manhattan.
This is the master suite on the main parlor level of our limestone row house, rich with history and old-world details. It is located in Stuyvesant Heights, a beautiful and historic Brooklyn neighborhood. We are a few blocks away from the Gates Ave. stop on the J/Z subway line. It's about a 20-30 minute subway ride to anywhere in downtown Manhattan via an elevated, photogenic train track that will take you across the Williamsburg Bridge.
Our home is located on a quiet street and one of three homes on the block originally built for Franciscan Friars, whose beautiful 19th Century church is still in use just a few doors down.
You will have the entire parlor level to your self. A spacious kitchen is downstairs on the garden level. Technically it is a SHARED kitchen, because Kevin's assistant (a quiet lady who works downstairs 10 AM - 6 PM on some weekdays) may use the sink and counter occasionally. Other than that, it is essentially your private kitchen.
On the parlor level, you will have a private bathroom and 3 rooms: parlor (can be turned into bedroom), living room, and master bedroom. Each room has doors and can either be closed off into its own private space, or joined with other rooms to form a single, spacious loft-like living space.
THE PARLOR / MAKESHIFT BEDROOM faces the street side of the house on a quiet block. We can provide a comfortable FULL SIZE air mattress (sleeps 2) for this room upon request. This room features a plush Moroccan carpet, a working gramophone, and a gorgeous antique mantel complete with mirror and multicolored tiles. The 3 windows give plenty of natural light during the day.
THE LIVING ROOM, as seen in photos, is situated between the living room and bedroom. It has pocket doors with beautiful art nouveau etched glass windows. This room features a comfortable pastel yellow leather chesterfield sofa, along with a dark blue Moroccan tribal rug. You can access your Netflix, HBO GO, and Amazon Instant Video accounts on the flat screen TV. The Sonos speakers, located below the TV, gives you access to music on demand from your smartphone or Pandora / Spotify accounts. The classical acoustic guitar is for your enjoyment, provided you take good care of it.
THE MASTER BEDROOM faces the garden side of the house. It features a comfortable FULL SIZE bed, a beautiful antique mantel, and a reproduction of the Papa Chair by Hans Wegner in orange. The two windows give the room plenty of natural light during the day.
THE PRIVATE BATHROOM is on the same level as the bedroom.
The SHARED KITCHEN is downstairs. This is essentially your private kitchen. But Kevin's assistant (a quiet lady who works downstairs 10 AM - 6 PM on some weekdays, in her own office space) may use the fridge, sink and counter occasionally.
OUTDOOR SPACE is available. You are welcome to use both the patio chairs on our front courtyard facing the street (great for a glass of wine and relaxation on a nice day), and our private backyard.
Guests will have access to a private, self-contained master suite apartment on the parlor level, one flight of stairs from ground level. The kitchen (technically shared, but essentially your private kitchen as explained above) is downstairs in the garden level. Unfortunately, the apartment is not handicap accessible.
We have free street parking on our block. Unlike a lot of places in NYC, it's generally not hard to find a parking spot in front of or near our house.
This suite is normally our own living space, so if you are staying here, there's a good chance both of us are traveling!
We are educated and courteous hosts who love our neighborhood and are eager to share it with you. Yuan is an attorney who works with a law firm in midtown, and speaks Mandarin. 我会说中文! Kevin is an antique dealer and long-time New Yorker. We enjoy travel, literature, the theater, improv, Argentine tango, great restaurants, fine cocktails and liquor, and of course, Brooklyn! Don't hesitate to ask for advice.
We love traveling ourselves and always look forward to meeting kindred spirits from shores near and far, and sharing with them our wonderful neighborhood and home. At least one of us is generally available (in person or remotely) to answer your questions, provide directions, or give recommendations. We care about our guests and always welcome the opportunity to get to know them personally, but at the same time respect their privacy. So how much you want to interact with and get to know us is completely up to you.
We are eager to share our home with you. In return, we would appreciate it very much if you share with us some basic information about yourself when contacting us for the first time. For example, a brief introduction of yourself and any guests who will be staying with you, the purpose of your trip, etc. This would not only give us a better sense of who we are welcoming to our home, but also help us better anticipate your needs when preparing for your arrival.
