The best of all worlds: outdoor living and morning swims in the lake with the beaches and glitter of Cannes only 30 km away. All this comes with our very private house with large terrain and no visible neighbours. Your pet(s) will be in paradise too!
Our small house is a real rustic gem for those who feel they need a retreat to nature. Clean and tidy, it is a stylistic nod to the 1960's (it was built in 1968) and equipped with everything you need.
No sharing required - you will have the entire house and large terrain/garden all to yourself. We are animal lovers ourselves and pets are more than welcome. In fact, they will love the nature paradise for the same reasons that you do.
In season the garden will offer cherries, figs, apples, many herbs, perhaps even some wild strawberries or rogue artichokes. There is even a "source" (natural spring) that has never, ever run dry - perhaps meaningful to those who have read the very moving Provençal story of "Jean de Florette".
What is most amazing about this gem of a property is that when you are surrounded by such stunning nature and the lake, it is almost impossible to believe that you are a mere 30 km from the glitz, hustle and bustle of La Croisette and Le Palais des Festivals of Cannes.
The house is easily accessed by paved roads. The hike down to Lac de Saint-Cassien takes between 15 to 30 minutes depending on which side of the lake you would like to access. Down on the lake there are pedalos and kayaks for hire. The area is also a haven for cyclists. If you want, we can leave you two mountain bikes and an inflatable kayak. There is no landline telephone or DSL but you will have full WiFi access via the WiFi Hotspot that we have provided for you (2.7 mbps down, 1.6 mbps up). The WiFi Hotspot charges are included in the rental price, so you do not have to worry about any hidden charges.
We will greet you upon arrival and walk you through home and garden. If you have any special requests, let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate them. After that, we can have as much or as little contact as you desire.
Please keep in mind that although the cabin will be clean and tidy, we cannot control nature on the doorstep. You can expect much birdsong, buzzing of insects, rustling of small lizards, a salamander (in the well), local cats - you may even see a herd of wild boars (they are friendly).
Note that the whole region of the Côte d'Azur is a well-known fire hazard area, and many major forest fires (some of them with fatalities) have been caused by careless smokers and illegal bbq'ing. So all open flames are strictly prohibited by law and well enforced. Electric bbq's are allowed, but not open-flame bbq's.
So we would like our guests to treat our home with respect, as if it were their own. Ideally, we'd like them to unwind and relax and leave with their batteries fully charged with nature and birdsong.
We have lived on the Cote d'Azur for a long time now and, in that time, have acquired three very different, but very special properties - each of them now available for holiday rental purposes.
We bought a wonderful loft apartment - "Le Loft Cannois" - in the very heart of Cannes, less than 100 metres in front of the Palais des Festivals.
We then bought a gem of a lake house on Lac de St. Cassien, a mere 15 km from the Mediterranean Sea and a mere 30km from the centre of Cannes.
And now that we are retired, we rent out our main villa - "La Californiènne" - starting in mid-May for the Cannes Film Festival until the end of September.
We have consciously chosen not to use an agency and to manage everything ourselves. So one or both of us will meet and greet you upon your arrival and we will do our utmost to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We are happy to tell you all you need to know about this wonderful part of the world.
