Ocean front house with the waves crashing in front, away from the hustle and bustle of Santa Teresa towards Mal Pais just one km from the cross roads of the center of town of Santa Teresa. Playa Carmen center. Perfect venue for weddings and romantic honeymoon. Incredible location.
3 flying frogs is a wonderful two story house positioned in a park like setting in sight and sound of the waves breaking. Situated on the sunset facing, beautiful Mal Pais Pacific ocean front. The house was built of almond wood (now prohibited) some thirty years ago in the very quiet area of town on a wide flat green property like a park, with large mature trees, right on the water with spectacular views. It is completely open plan with windows on all four sides, no glass, just the sea breeze blowing through. Very simple decorations, a few pieces of furniture and seashell lamps, very simple but chique.
The kitchen is well stocked for a cook. We love cooking!
All the spaces are open plan, the balcony upstairs is divided by a staircase and intimate with nature i.e. open windows with wooden slats, no doors just wooden divisions between spaces and everything is open to the trees and view of the ocean outside. There is no air conditioning because the sea breezes and (practically) the ocean spray are cooling enough and even blow away any mosquitos as they never seem a problem. Bathroom with adjoining Balinese style open air shower and hot water.
There are 4 beds in total. 1 king bedroom and 1 queen bedroom upstairs on the open balcony and 2 singles downstairs.
2 hammocks slung in the large shady trees for afternoons of wave watching. A built in BBQ, a large table that seats 8 or more and a big swing and a few deck chairs and sofa with cushions. I have also put a double swing bed in the tree! There is a second outdoor shower for when you come back from swimming.
The property is a 1km from the main town crossroad down a dirt road that leads to the Cabuya national park. It is just after A small restaurant called Caricolas rated #2 in the who area on tripadvisor and before Elimar on the way to Mal Pais.
Arrive in SJO early enough to connect with (website hidden) a 20 minute hopper flight to Tambor. Sansa is a 5 min walk from the main terminal. It is the hub for all destinations in Costa Rica. Or you stay the night in San Jose and take the hopper early the next day. Try the Trap family hotel in Alavuella, next to airport say I recommended you.
From Tambor airstrip Take a 40 minute taxi to Mal Pais and rent a car here. Or drive 1.5 hours to Puntarenas and take the ferry 40 mins to Paquiera and 40 minutes to the house.
There is a caretaker who acts as handyman and gardener, his wife provides 2 -3 hours a day cleaning included in the rental. A cook can be got if needed.
Things to do
Santa Teresa has some of the best surfing breaks in the world. Miles of white sand beaches for walking or riding. Mal Pais itself is better for snorkeling. We go to the rock pools and sometimes to swim in the reef at Swedish beach, called secret beach as it is so quiet... at low tide close to the house.
Casa Carlyn is a beautiful property with a large flat area perfect for a wedding party. The sun sets directly in front.
