Javier and his family accommodated a very early bus arrival and invited us into their home while the other tenants checked out. Javier is very knowledgable about La Paz and surrounding area and is very interesting to talk to. His place is a great place to stay during your time in La Paz. Would highly recommend!

The apartment is located in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood very close to a teleférico stop in a cozy and secure building. The apartment is large, spacious, well-furnished and outfitted and has lots of extra features that increase the comfort, including a DVD selection, some basic cooking supplies, and a combined fireplace/stereo. Javier was welcoming, accommodating, and friendly, and stopped by on our last day to send us off.

Had such a great stay here! The apartment is beautiful and clean, full kitchen, laundry, etc. Sopocachi neighborhood is really cool and fun, has all amenities you need close by, and it's a pleasant 30 min walk to el prado/the main sights. Javier was out of town during our stay but his son met us for the key and was very nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Great bang for your buck! Javier was a welcoming and warm host, we enjoyed him. He was even flexible on letting us stay an extra night because some political blockades affected part of our travel plans... There was a problem with the internet service at the apartment (due to a thunderstorm, completely outside of his control), and he immediately offered to have us use the WiFi at his office nearby, which was greatly appreciated. In all, he was a great host! The apartment is cozy, warm, and fit us (a couple plus two other friends) like a glove. There are a lot of small details that made staying here great: a microwave, a washer (no drier), an electric fireplace, even a hair dryer! Kitchen was stocked with the essentials, including some good mate de coca. Our only critique is that while the location is in a really nice neighborhood, the apartment is a little tucked away, which made catching a cab (the best way to get around La Paz) difficult. We found ourselves having to walk 2-3 blocks in order to reliably get one. But I think this is accurately reflected in the listing price!

Javier was kind enough to stock the fridge with a couple items to see us through the first day without a trip to the store. And after a long overnight flight I was grateful for that. He also provided a map that described all the nearby markets, restaurants, transportation and useful businesses. Very handy! We did hit a few speed bumps so be smarter than we were and pin down EXACTLY what the address is and how to contact Javier without a local cell phone. That would have made our early morning check in much smoother. This unit is on what I call the second floor and what some of you Europeans would call the first floor, so one flight above the street. It has a TV but no service so no opportunity to glimpse Bolivian culture through its TV shows. There were several DVD's. The wifi was dependable but slow. Bolivians are tough and I was amazed to learn that most Bolivian homes do NOT have heat. Shocking in a country whose temperatures regularly hover near freezing but that helped explain how it could be considered unremarkable that this unit could have three separate vents to the outside that could not be closed or altered. Fortunately there are two heaters in the apartment but even with them working most of the day the apartment would never be described as "toasty". It was also a shock to discover that the only hot water plumbed into the unit was in the shower. You can heat water in the kettle or microwave to do dishes but washing my hands in near frigid water was a bit unexpected. Like the heat situation, this water arrangement is apparently the norm in Bolivia but I had never run across that information in any of my pre-trip research. Once we were in and settled it was a good, little headquarters for our Bolivian adventures.
Hello Matt, thank you very much for your splendid feedback. Definitevelly we will put a clock and install local TV channels in the TV (they are in spanish and didn't think my guests would see them). Sorry about low speed of wifi, as you said is the standard in La Paz. Very few houses do have hot water in every tap, that is quite "luxurious" for bolivian standards, but I will clear this aspects in the apartment descrition for the future. Warmest regards. Javier
