NOCCIANO rises at 300 meters above sea level on a hills surrounded by Nora and Cigno torrents,on a central and dominant position in the area,framed by the mountains of Maiella and Morrone to the South-West the Gran Sasso in the north and gently towards the Adriatic Sea,visible from the (URL HIDDEN) has about 1800 inhabitants,but its population is constantly growing and booming construction industry due to its proximity to Chieti ,the provincial capital of Pescara, to the many shopping malls,trade and industry centres and the highway exits of Alanno-Scafa A25 and Pescara-West A14.The countryside surrounding it re almost entirely cultivated with vineyards,olive groves and arable lands,that produces excellent wines with

THE MEDIEVAL CASTLE OF NOCCIANO
Presumably built under the Norman domination (XI-XII century),it features a stone-made building with subsequent revisions,additions and changes that make it as (URL HIDDEN) was equipped with a turreted strategic elements,including the remaining central bastion,which,in the late-Renaissance,was added to the north part of the building completed by the “Loggiato” that faces the Gran Sasso.
Over the centuries ,it belonged to the Margherita of Austria that give the castle to Aliprandi family. Diego De Sterlich- Aliprandi,Cermine Marquis and Baron of Nocciano sold it to the Torregiani family who has lived there since 1991,when the municipality purchased the property .In 1998,the castle hosted the Contemporary Abruzzesi Artists’Achives Museum .The property also has a conference room for meetings and discussions and an indoor atrium with a garden where they are feature music,theatre,film,food and wine considerable interest.
CONTEMPORARY ABRUZZESI ARTISTS’ MUSEUM OF NOCCIANO

CHURCH OF S.LORENZO
The Benedictine Abbey, located just outside the village, on a small natural hill. Of the late Romanesque building will retain some single-light ribbed apse in which traces of fescoes reveal the existence of a medieval painting apparatus. Inside you can see a font Renaissance stone and a wooden crucifix of the seventeenth century .Reliable information on the existence of the building date back to 1116 when he appointed as a “privilege” of Pope Pasquale II, the assets of the Monastery of St. Bartolomeo of Carpineto della Nora.
CHURCH OF MADONNA DELLE GRAZIE
Located along of the “Tratturello of Loreto”, about half a kilometer from the town. It is a one-winged building, probably dated back only to the sixteenth century. The facade simple and unadorned, is characterized by a longer end and curved crown. The roof is decorated with a trussed wooden flat brick floors(tiles)with two types of alternating flower sign.
A largely reworked fresco over the centuries shows the Madonna Delle Grazie With St. Vito Martire, St. Girolamo kneeling, St. Emidio and St. Liborio Bishop, St.Apollonia V. and M. and St.Lucia V. and M., all of them in the eighteenth century.

Is located on the first floor of the building where the poet was born and spent his child hood.It still retains the original atmosphere of the 19th century with its elegant wall decorations and period furnishings,an atmosphere often surfacing in D’Annunzio’s work in the shape of a vision,an impression or a memory mosly connected to the deep love he felt for his family.
MEDIAMUSEUM:THE ARTS OF ENTERTAINMENT
Typical of this museum is the resolve not to propose a mere collection of finds from the past,but to assert itself as a multimedia place of great suggestion,capable of linking the past and the present with the future of audiovisual image. The permanent section of Mediamuseum are dedicated to documents,images and objects related to the events,the protagonists and the universal professions of the arts of entertainment which ,by their very nature are ever changing .The Media museum is housed in about 4,000 square metres over 4 floors,three of which are dedicated to the exhibition,the fourth hosting the multimedia library,the library and the photographic archives.
VITTORIA COLONNA MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
The Vittoria Colonna Museum of Modern Art in Pescara opened in 2002.The Museum is an important centre for culture,a laboratory for modern art.The permanent collection is made up by the Gangai-Stoppato donation(works by Brindisi,Bueno,Calabria,Carrà,Guidi,Guttuso,Manzù,Maccari,Mirò,Picasso and more);Misticoni donation(works by Giuseppe Misticoni)and Benini donation(painting by the macchiaiolo artist Ulisse Pichi) .
Born and bred in Rome, now I teach Italian, Latin and History at secondary school in Nocciano, where I live with my husband and our daughters. Together we share the love for travels and for our production of a special olive oil (coming straight from our olive trees).
