Walk to the museums and monuments while living in a real DC neighborhood! The house is beautiful, historic, and spacious, and the location is amazing- blocks from the Capitol, metro, restaurants, and parks. Childproofed and perfect for family groups!
Our house was built as a corner market in the early 1900's and is full of historical details. When you first walk into the house, there is a large living/dining room to your right. This room was the original shopping area for the market and has very high ceilings, original wood floors, and a beautiful stamped tin ceiling. The most unique feature is the unusual door to the powder room - it's the door to the old walk-in freezer from when the house was a corner market! The fully-furnished kitchen and adjoining deck have just been completely renovated (reclaimed hardwood floor, walnut countertops, and Blue Star oven in the kitchen; new decking and chairs and table on the deck) and are gorgeous if we do say so ourselves.
In the fully finished basement, we have our guest room (queen bed) and bathroom, our den with a wraparound couch and large flatscreen TV, our washer/dryer, and our game room.
On the second floor, we have three bedrooms. One bedroom has a king size bed and attached bathroom, one bedroom has a full size bed, and the other bedroom has a bunk bed (twin over full). There is also a second bathroom on that floor.
The top floor has a very large bedroom with a king size bed, a large bathroom, and an office.
We have small children, so our house is well set up for groups with children (i.e. toys, strollers, Pack n Play, high chairs, cabinet locks).
We currently have two air mattresses (queen and full) which can go in the bedrooms, the living room, or the den as well as two toddler mattresses which children can sleep on. We also have two pullout sofas in the living room as well as a large sofa in the den which can be slept on.
We have wireless internet access throughout the house and central air conditioning and heat.
Guests have use of the whole house except for the office on the top floor, the owners closet, and the fireplace.
We will be out of the house during any rentals but will be available by phone and e-mail. We leave guests with an information packet about the house (e.g. wireless password, where extra towels are kept, etc.)
Capitol Hill is the ideal neighborhood for exploring Washington, DC, and our location can't be beat!
This is our primary residence, and we ask that you treat the house and our possessions with care and kindness. We welcome families with small children.
Smoking is not allowed inside or outside of the house. (There is a park directly across the street.)
Pets are not allowed.
