The Mas des Cistes is part of a medieval hamlet on a rocky outcropping overlooking the Cèze river valley. Quietly isolated, with a spectacular view, only 20 km from Uzès and 45 km from Avignon, city of festivals. 4 hours (train and car) from Paris.
Nestled on a rocky outcropping overlooking the vineyards and olive groves of the winding Cèze Valley, and only 1 km from the medieval village of St André d'Olérargues, the Mas des Cistes is an idyllic rural getaway for up to seven people.
Part of a stone hamlet called the Hameau de Sellier, fully restored to modern standards in 2011, tastefully appointed with period furniture, the Mas has three bedrooms, two wash rooms, and spacious living, dining and kitchen areas -- a total of 170 m2 of living space on two levels. Its extensive stone terrace boasts a spectacular view of the Cèze Valley, as well as the Cévennes and Ardèche Mountain ranges.
Guests have access to the entire house, which is rented on a weekly (or longer) basis. Guests must be self-catering. We supply the basics (sheets, towels, a fully equipped kitchen, bbq, etc), but guests must bring their own supplies for their stay. There are small shops closeby, and large supermarkets within a 10 to 15 minute drive.
We welcome the guests to the Mas des Cistes, share stories and tips about the surroundings, and leave a bottle of local wine and other seasonal products for them to enjoy their stay.
Our property is rural with lots of wonderful walking/hiking available but not too many activities for young children, and is not wheelchair accessible. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils and small appliances. Ideal for the preparation of Mediterranean cuisine, a variety of local herbs and spices are available, such as thyme, savory and rosemary. The terrace is ideal for outdoor eating, and evening star-gazing, with spectacular vistas and sunsets. Attractively surrounded by vineyards, gardens, and overlooking vines and orchards in the valley. An excellent restaurant is a 15 minute walk from the Mas in the village of Saint André d'Olérargues. The closest town is Goudargues (about 9 km), and the closest city is Bagnols-sur-Ceze (about 14 km). Pets are welcome, but we prefer that they stay in the enclosed courtyard and not enter the house itself. Please, no smoking in the house!
We expect guests to leave the house as tidy as when they arrived, and expect them to treat the Mas as if it were their own home.
We ask for a damage deposit, which will be refunded if the house and its belongings are returned as they were found. We won't make a fuss over minor damage such as a broken glass or plate, however, we will apply a cleaning fee of minimum 50 Euros should the house require tidying after your departure.
As the hamlet is very tranquil, we'd ask guests to respect the neighbours and keep noise pollution to a minimum. No smoking in the house, please.
