Quiet, elegantly decorated apartment in a Georgian, Mary Poppins-esque square. Easy access to the best of London... Borough Market and Southbank by foot. Minutes' walk from Bakerloo, Northern & Jubilee line tube plus London Bridge railway.
This Grade II, heritage listed, apartment is in a beautiful and peaceful Georgian Square...a close walking distance to London Bridge and Bermondsey Street and ideal for rapid access to the Southbank and the West End.
It has easy access to rail, tube and buses and is a short Boris bike ride from Soho, Covent Garden and the theatre district (Boris bikes are street bikes for easy, automatic hire).
Created from the ground floor of two Georgian town houses, it has its own front door from the street and looks out into the square, facing the Henry Wood Hall - an old church used by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for rehearsals. On a summer Sunday, it's possible to sit outside and listen to the orchestra live.
The large reception room looks out onto the square and is furnished with a large sofa and two comfortable leather armchairs. The large and spacious master bedroom also looks onto the square and has a king-size bed with a Tempura mattress (it's so obscenely comfortable that you'll need to take care that you don't stay in it all day). Original wooden shutters lock out all light in both this room and the reception. The second bedroom is smaller with a queen size double bed, also with a comfortable latex mattress and looks out onto the rear garden. By prior arrangement, the sofa can also be used as a fifth bed (it's comfortable and has a drop down arm) or a double inflatable mattress can be arranged.
The kitchen, off the reception room, has everything you need to eat at home – dining table to seat four, fridge, microwave, washing machine (not dryer), Nespresso coffee machine, shake blender and all the essential hardware. But with Bermondsey Street packed full of bistros, gastro pubs and restaurants, you might be smarter to venture out and enjoy this truly vibrant area. The bathroom is clean and functional with a large corner bath (fits 2) – There’s an uncharacteristically powerful shower over the bath. Wooden floors throughout – no yucky English carpets!
The flat is peaceful, comfortable and simply appointed but it is also very much my home and not let out on a rolling basis so please do not progress if you would feel uncomfortable taking care of cut crystal glassware or using coasters to protect antique furniture. The flat does NOT have a TV but does have books, wi-fi and an iPod dock …it’s the perfect place to quietly relax and unwind at the end of a fun-packed day.
Rental includes linen, towels and cleaning and basic supplies (tea, coffee, washing up stuff on a use and replace basis etc).
I look forward to hearing from you, Johnnie
The entire flat.
I'm always happy to help with advice prior to a visit and will always respond quickly to any queries while guests are at my flat. I am keen to know more about the people who will be staying in my house before I accept a booking.
The flat is ideal, and is furnished, for four - two couples sharing.
No smoking at all in the flat please. (If you smoke outside PLEASE take a key with you, guests have locked themselves out before.)
Absolutely no parties and additional overnight guests (that were not in the original booking). No pets.
Please remove shoes and be light footed in order to be considerate of neighbours - sound travels in London's flat conversions. (I live here most of the time and never have any problems.)
Basic provisions; clothes washing stuff, Nespresso capsules etc etc are provided but please replace what you finish / use.
I'm British and was raised by Scottish parents in Surrey. I am gregarious, warm and direct. I work in advertising and live between London, Kent and Cumbria. I love skiing and try to keep fit with Bikram yoga and free weights. I ride horses when I get the chance.
I'm a professional, single dad (my teenaged kids stay with me in my cottage out of London every other weekend) so I'm pretty house proud at home and as a guest...I'm the guy who washes the dishes when he comes to dinner.
I love culture - especially old buildings and I like to meet different people and personalities. I very much believe that its the people we meet that make life richer.
