A delightful, spacious and full of character duplex apartment located on a quiet street in the most atmospheric of the historical districts. Close to all attractions!
It features a semi open TERRACE, perfect for "al fresco" drinks and dinners.
Casa Irene is my place in Cagliari.
It is the top floor flat of a 120 years old building that hosts three flats in total.
It is located in the heart of Villanova one of Cagliari's four historical districts.
Villanova has the distinctive advantage of being right in the centre of town, a few minutes walk from restaurants, bars and shops but without the noise and definitely without the traffic (most streets are now for pedestrians only) that could be a problem in other areas.
Villanova feels a bit like a village within a city, it's pleasantly relaxing and it's perfect even if you stay for business thanks to its central location.
Guests are normally surprised (see their reviews) to find such an atmospheric and welcoming neighbourhood, with its own very distinctive vibe and so close to all other attractions in town.
The little square just a few metres away from the apartment is simply delightful, you can find two pizza places, two lively bars, one grocery shop, the magnificent S. Domenico cloister (dating back to the Spanish Inquisition). The whole district is full of pleasant surprises.
A car is normally not needed but if you do have one the best place to leave it is the very big indoor car park on Viale Regina Elena, just a few minutes walk from Casa Irene.
Port, train and coach stations are 13 minutes walk away or just a few bus stops. Airport is only 15 minutes away by taxi (between 15 and 20 Euro) or just a bit longer by public transport.
Poetto Beach (Cagliari 6 Km long beach) is about 30 minutes away by public transport. One bus to the port (5/10 minutes) and another from there to the beach (20 minutes), all with the same bus ticket.
Casa Irene is a spacious, full of character, fully equipped and bright flat (approximately 80 sq m, including the two mezzanines) with very high ceiling and wooden beams.
Has an open plan kitchen with fridge, freezer, cooker, oven and dish washer and table with chairs.
Living room has a sofa and armchair and there is a flat TV with digital terrestrial system which means that many television programs can be in English.
Casa Irene sleeps 3 or maximum 4 people. Has one spacious and bright master bedroom with a lovely antique king size bed and a mezzanine on top of the kitchen with a double bed (if you are thinking about privacy keep in mind that the mezzanine opens to the living room).
Another mezzanine-sitting area with sofa is just on top of the bedroom and opens to a partially covered terrace with table, chairs, pots with plants and a boxed washing machine.
Terrace is perfect for dinner "al fresco" and has a lovely view of Cagliari Cathedral and Castello district.
Bathroom (with shower and bidet) is spacious and also bright and airy thanks to its window. Hot water is provided by an electric boiler.
Due to the presence of stairs and the two mezzanines Casa Irene is NOT recommended for families with children.
Air conditioning unit (warm or cold) is in the sitting room while bedroom has a big fan and mezzanine with bed another smaller one.
Internet access. There is a portable WiFi router that guests can use upon request.
Casa Irene comes equipped with pots and pans, cutlery, sheets and towels, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, cool bag and sun umbrella for the beach.
Everybody is welcome, regardless of religious beliefs, political views, sexual orientation, colour of hair... ;o)
I love spending time at Casa Irene, I am sure you will also be able to relax and enjoy this special place, my very special place in the sun.
Casa Irene is my place in Cagliari and I spend a lot of time there. I expect guests to respect my place as I would respect theirs.
The last few experiences hosting on Airbnb lead me to highlight a few things.
Guests are expected to:
1) Reply in reasonable time to messages (texts or emails) I might send them to check if everything is ok with their stay or other reason. Not replying to a message is simply bad manners and makes people a bit worried. I am always easily contactable by guests and happy to help.
2) To dispose of rubbish, leave plates and cutlery clean, dispose of any perishable foods from the fridge or anywhere.
3) To leave used sheets and towels in the laundry box under the window in the bathroom.
4) To leave bathroom, kitchen and flat in general tidy. The cleaning person who will clean afterwards is first of all a person and her/his job deserves our respect
5) To smoke only in the terrace
6) To avoid making unnecessary noises at night
7) To follow security rules at all times, keeping door to street, main door and door to terrace properly shut
8) To read the house manual at the beginning of the stay
9) To notify me immediately of anything that might not work properly in the flat or if anything gets damaged
10) To inform me of needed flexibility at check out
My name is Maurizio, I am Italian from Sardinia but have been living in London for about 16 years.
I speak Italian, English and Spanish and now I'm also learning French and Thai. I have always been passionate about travelling and getting to know new people and new cultures.
Even if I work in London I manage to go back to my beautiful island very often. I couldn't live without its blue sky, its gorgeously clear sea, its nature, its food.
Ten years ago I decided that I needed a place for myself in Sardinia and after a bit of thinking and looking around the island I decided that Cagliari was definitely my perfect "place in the sun".
I lived there as university student and spent some of the best years of my life.
I chose Cagliari not only with my heart but also with my brain: it is a good size city without being too big, it's lively without being stressful, enjoys a perfect Mediterranean climate, it's on the sea and surrounded by amazing beaches, offers plenty of interesting things to see and do, it's easy to fly to from so many different cities.
It's very simply a city where holidays and every day life are equally enjoyable.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Take care and "a presto"!
