Mill Valley is only 15 minutes from San Francisco, and close to the beach and the wine country. It's a lovely, safe, quiet village set in the redwoods. The wonderful house (chosen to be on the Mill Valley art and garden tour) is a 5-min walk to town.
The house is surrounded by gardens, with a seasonal creek on one side and gardens all around. The house is in the Streamline Moderne style, with a large living room (with romantic fireplace), dining room, office with views over the front garden courtyard, two full bathrooms, and a kitchen with brand new appliances (Viking stove and microwave, Miele appliances, etc.).
The bedroom arrangement is a bit unusual. The main bedroom is tiny, but has a queen-sized bed with terrific bedding, a TV with full cable, including HBO, and a skylight. There is a comfy double bed in a nook off the kitchen.
The study has lovely views out onto the greenery surrounding the creek, two desks, a TV with full cable access, including HBO, and a sofa.
The gardens are marvelous. The front courtyard has a fountain. On one side of the house is the creek, with bamboo stands and many trees. On the other side of the house is a smaller garden area that sometimes showcases the owners' own work. Behind the house there is seating and a table for outdoor dining.
The whole house is served by our Wi-Fi network.
Even though we're close to the city, there's a fair amount of wildlife around. You may see deer by the creek, raccoons scampering along the decks, and we even had a fox in the back yard last year.
Very few houses in Mill Valley have air conditioning. Even on the very hottest days of the year our house is comfy without needing air conditioning.
This is our regular residence that we're renting out for a month--not a stripped-down rental property--so it's filled with our personal effects and furnishings, which makes it very homey. Note that the house isn't very kid-friendly, as it's filled with fragile pottery, lights, and artwork, as well as sharp-edged tables.
Guests will have access to the whole house and the gardens around the house.
We won't be around, but a friend will be on call if you have questions or need help. We'll also have our cleaning crew come in once in the middle of your stay to clean.
Note that we're only interested in a full one-month rental from May 15 to June 14, 2015. We are not interested in renting by the night.
The weather should be very mild in May-June, but if you turn on the living room fireplace it heats most of the house just fine.
Enjoy the house and your vacation. Please leave things in the same condition you found them.
Three specific rules:
1) Please do not smoke either inside the house or around the premises. We're allergic, so please don't allow anyone else to smoke either.
2) No pets are allowed inside or on the property's grounds.
3) Please keep the noise down so the neighbors don't hear you. That's easy, by the way, because there's a lot of separation between the house and the neighbors.
Well-traveled guy, living with my wife in Mill Valley, California just north of San Francisco. I've got very widespread interests, and travel is high among them. In fact, I run a web-based travel recommendation website, called Trekkel, and I've been doing quite a bit of travel myself to prepare the content for the website.
Other interests of mine include art and architecture, ceramics (I teach a wheel throwing class at a local pottery studio and made my living for 3 years as a full time potter and sculptor), design, France and all things French (I lived in Paris for three years), the cultural impact of web technologies, intellectual property law, fencing, geopolitics, mystery and historical novels, classic Hong Kong films, and the evolution of science.
I'm very quiet, don't smoke, and rarely drink. I'm attached at the hip to my bicycle, my Mac and my iPad when I travel so I need a good internet connection wherever I stay.
