Our one-bedroom apartment is in a lovely grove of redwood trees in the Oakland hills. You are only minutes away from vibrant neighborhoods that offer restaurants, art studios, bookstores, cafes and more! When you want to enjoy nature all you have to do is walk up the hill to beautiful hiking trails. All of this from our completely furnished apartment with a private entrance. If you are visiting for work or just to explore the San Francisco Bay Area- think of our place as your home!
If you want a comfortable apartment that is only minutes away from urban life and walking distance to California's beautiful regional parks, this is the place for you! The apartment is located in the Oakland hills, surrounded by redwood trees and a canyon.
We are minutes away from Montclair Village, where you can find supermarkets, cafes, bookstores, and shops. Every Sunday a Farmer's Market is held and you can enjoy delicious food and music.
Highways to San Francisco, Berkeley, downtown Oakland and other areas are only ten minutes away. All you do is drive down the winding hill to a main street that leads you to five freeway entrances.
And if it is nature you want, the East Bay Regional Park District is only a block away; a refuge from urban life with 112,000 acres of beautiful hikes and bike paths.
In the mornings or early evening you can see deer grazing in the small canyon just outside the apartment. Many guests say they feel like they are living in a tree house. You have the best of both worlds: urban life and nature!
The light-filled apartment is tastefully decorated with a completely separate entrance. It features a fully equipped kitchen with granite counter tops and Mexican tiles; generous living room with a convertible sofa/twin bed, a desk with a view of the trees, sofa and two comfortable chairs; bathroom; and a comfortable, private bedroom with a queen bed and plenty of light. There is a tiny deck that you can access from the bedroom. It looks out on the canyon.
All bathroom towels and bedding are 100% cotton. The floors are bamboo. Free wifi and washer and dryer are provided.
I should mention that you walk down 33 steps to the apartment and a few steps are steep. The apartment is attached to the house so you will sometimes hear noise but we try to be quiet.
Our apartment is great for a single person, two people and or/a couple. You should have a car, as we are in the hills where there is limited public transportation. There is free street parking in front of the house.
If you brought a dog or cat I ask that they not sleep on the furniture. If they need to sleep on something you can put them on the sofa-bed (with the yellow cover).
If it is urban life you want, you are only ten minutes away from Highway 24 that will connect you to 580 and take you to downtown Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.
You are five minutes away from Highway 13 that connects to 880 taking you to Palo Alto and San Jose. We are in the hills - so you must have a car!
The nearest BART station, Rockridge, is only ten minutes away by car and will take you directly into SF. The commute is only 15 minutes. You can also transfer to East Bay trains.
And if it is nature you seek, East Bay Regional Park District is minutes away. Scenic Skyline Blvd that leads to Grizzly Peak and post card views of the SF Bay Area are one block away. Following Grizzly Peak you can drive through the Berkeley Hills and into Tilden Regional Park. Tilden Park has wonderful hikes, a small swimming lake (Lake Anza), bike routes and an antique carousel. It is part of the East Bay Regional Parks District. It is one of my favorite parks.

I love traveling, dinner with family and friends, film, music, literature and hiking. I'm a native San Franciscan and have lived throughout the Bay Area most of my life. I've also lived in Washington DC and traveled extensively on the East Coast. International travel includes Latin America and Europe. I've worked as a producer/reporter for National Public Radio and as a Media Relations Director for non-profits. I live with my partner, Martin, who is fluent in Spanish and speaks conversational German and French. I love meeting people from throughout the U.S. and around the world. As a native San Franciscan, I enjoy welcoming people to the beautiful Bay Area. And I agree with many that Oakland is becoming the "New Brooklyn" - offering art, music, parks, great neighborhoods, cafes and a vibrant night life.
