Bywater Victorian Double
Bywater Victorian Double

This is half a double, so it includes everything you will need. It is a self contained and open, airy space with a living room, full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and laundry.

This fits two people; either a couple in the bedroom or two friends - one in the bedroom and the other on the fold down futon. *My license is only good for two people.*

There are great places to eat, thrift, sip coffee, and see local theater and art within walking distance. If you need quick grocery items, the New Orleans Food Co-op and Mardi Gras Zone are just blocks away.

Great places to eat and drink are within a few minutes walking distance; Cake Cafe, Satsuma, Elizabeth's, Bacchanal, Mimi's, Mariza, Pizza Delicious, The Joint, Red's Chinese, Press Street Station and The Cheezy Cajun. There are a few bars in the area that now serve food as well, which is great when you are not ready to go home but need to eat.

I have basic cable hooked up, so local news and weather is available. There is Wifi at the house and at most coffee shops. If you need to use my printer for small things I will be happy to help you out with that as well. There is private laundry inside the house, so you do not have to return home with dirty clothes. Prices will be affected by festivals like Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest and the weekly rate dos NOT apply during these festival times.

You are welcome to enjoy the front porch, but with consideration to the neighborhood (and my cats).

The apartment is self contained and I leave it up to you to decide how much we talk. I don't want to invade your privacy and do not come into the apartment unless we arrange to do so. I supply the basics and then some. If you use up what is there, please purchase items such as laundry soap, body soap, dish detergent or toilet paper as you need it.

If you are highly (I mean extreme) allergic to animals, this may not be the right house for you. While there are NO pets allowed in the apartment, there are cats that hang on the porch and I have a dog. I may carry traces of dander (on me) into the apartment when I clean and I cannot guarantee a perfectly hypoallergenic environment.

There is also a train nearby, a neighbor's rooster, and a church bell. If you are highly sensitive to noise, you might want to find a spot further from the train and the church. (I don't even hear these things anymore.)

While we want you to feel at home, please treat the apartment with respect. If you are looking for a hotel atmosphere with a maid, please do not book my place.

Check in is anytime after 3:00 p.m. and check out is at 11:00 a.m. unless special arrangements are made. If you have a later flight and need to stow your bags at my place, we can arrange that unless one of us is unable to be here.

I have lived here for 16 years and can go on forever about the fun things to do in this city, so please ask away! I have also compiled a booklet of all the great things to do and see in the area and lots of pamphlets for swamp & plantation tours. I live on the property, so I am happy to chat, share a glass of wine on the porch, and help you enjoy your stay in New Orleans.

Beautiful home and Carin was amazing! We unfortunately had a run in with a Tropical storm/hurricane, which caused us to have to cut our stay short but Carin was incredibly accommodating. She was already prepping the home when we arrived and was willing to work with us to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. The home itself is updated and very comfortable. She had a ton of suggestions for the surrounding area from a local perspective and even touristy things to do. Definitely would stay again!

I was displaced due to Hurricane Harvey and they offered their place for no charge to displaced people. They reassured me I was making an amazing decision to move to the N.O. Very accommodating more then I could ask for! The house had everything you would need and then some. My favorite part was they actually just sat outside on the lovely porch and talked to me during this difficult time.

Carin is a fantastic host with a gorgeous home. Location couldn't be any better. Porch is A+. The neighborhood has no shortage of colorful houses, galleries, low key bars, and great food. It's remarkably quiet, yet still walking distance to all the craziness in the French Quarter. Do check out Bacchanal, The Joint, Bud Rips, Mimi's, Red's Chinese, as well as the riverside trail at Crescent Park and everything in between. Already dreaming of another trip...

Carin's home was everything we imagined and then some! It felt so much bigger in person than it appears in the photos, because of the incredibly high ceilings. The house has also been painted since photos were posted, so finding a bright, colorful victorian double waiting for us was a happy surprise! Carin was great - she was incredibly informative and we enjoyed chatting with her. The location was fantastic - a nice walk or short $4-$7 Uber ride to and from the Quarter, which is where we spent most of our time. We left with dreams of building our very own victorian double-inspired home someday. To say we were enamored would be an understatement!

Great location and very well appointed. Just what we were looking for!

We absolutely loved our stay here. Gorgeous house with everything and more you need to feel comfortable. Even better than the pictures. Bywater is a really cool, eclectic neighborhood that has some really great food and drinks. We loved N7 right around the corner! We really appreciated the extra touches like snacks, beer, magazines and Carin's very helpful guidebook. Carin and her husband were super welcoming. We loved hanging out on the pretty front porch. Overall a perfect place to explore from and get a genuine feel for the city!

Carin was an incredible host! She is extremely knowledgeable about the Bywater area specifically and New Orleans in general. Upon arrival, she greeted us warmly and we had a great conversation about everything from where to eat to the history of the neighborhood and how it's evolved. We took many of her suggestions on places to eat, see art, and hear music, and were not disappointed. The home itself is even more beautiful in person; she's painted the exterior in a wonderfully vibrant way that makes it one of the most beautiful homes on the street! As two young women traveling alone, we felt extremely safe as Carin and her family live in the duplex space next door. When we had questions, she was very responsive and helpful. Carin provided everything we needed to have a comfortable and memorable stay, and we would heartily recommend her space more to anyone visiting the area.

I am originally from Milwaukee and graduated from UWM with an Art degree. I moved to New Orleans at the end of 2000 and fell in love with the city. I worked freelance and for a contractor for almost 10 years painting furniture and interiors. I am currently working with a bike tour company that shows people a different side of New Orleans. I am also teaching myself how to sew and upholster furniture. I love suggesting places to eat, see music, and enjoy the sights.

My 5 favorite cities that I've visited so far outside the USA: Prague, Saint Petersburg, Milan, Amsterdam and San Miguel de Allende. Favorites in USA: New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Portland, and Milwaukee. Top 5 cities I hope to visit soon: Stockholm, London, Berlin, Marseille and Barcelona.
