Casa Dulce is very easy to find! We are in the center of town next to the soccer field – “El campo de fútbol” and on the shore of the lake. There are two ways to get to San Marcos, by boat or car.
If you arrive by boat, "lancha," you will be dropped off at the dock in the center of town. You can walk up the path and ask: Where is the soccer field? “Dónde está el campo del fútbol?” You may find people in the small stores and restaurants along the way who speak English.
Walk up the path and turn right when you see a sign that says El Dragon Hotel. Follow the narrow path that takes you to the soccer field. By the far end of the soccer field, right befor you get to Hotel El Dragon, between rows of seating, you will see bright pink bougainvillea flowers to greet you. You will see a sign painted with flowers that says Casa Dulce. Take the steps down to the gate, and follow the path to house on the lake.
If you come by car, just ask the driver to stop at the church (la iglesia) in the main plaza, and walk right past the front door and go straight down to the soccer field. Cross the soccer field and walk to the far left corner, near the Dragon Hotel. Before you get to El Dragon, you will see a water tank on the right side with a sign that says Casa Dulce. You have arrived! Enjoy!

Dear new friends,
You are coming to one of the most amazing places in the world, Lake Atitlán, in the western highlands of Guatemala. Described by many as the most beautiful lake in the world, living on the Lake will enchant you. Misty mornings sunrises to glorious sunsets, you will reveal in the spectacular beauty of this volcano-rimmed lake. Guatemala is a beautiful country, however don’t forget: this is a developing country!
Guatemala is a tropical country. You might see some most amazing birds, however, you may also see some also some insects. As much as we clean the house clean, some bugs may enter. None are harmful. If you see a big spider, please ignore it; it is part of the tropical ecosystem and does us a service by protecting us from the smaller bugs.
The house is well-equipped with a private water tank. However, San Marcos has experienced a water shortage, so if you use too much water you might face a short period with no water. Please save water and take short showers. Thank you.
You may encounter internet problems, water problems or electricity problems at some time during your stay. You can call or email me-- Gabriella Karni-- and I will send a maintenance repair person out immediately to take care of the situation.
Always lock the house and windows when you leave. Please do not leave computers and valuables out. There have been robberies in San Marcos. The municipality is taking care of the issue and robberies are declining, however, it is still prudent to be careful and not leave valuables laying around.
Whether you want to go standup paddle boarding, or practice yoga, meditation, cacao ceremonies, massages, acupuncture, San Marcos is the place for you. I recommend the Holistic Cottage where Katherine, with her magical hands and profound soul has helped me greatly. Yoga is offered on site; either gentle yoga, Power Yoga or Ashtanga Flow.
The house is an homage to Guatemalan artists and craftsmanship. All the paintings are Guatemalan, except from a rug imported from Egypt. All furniture has been hand-carved by Guatemalan artists and are simply unique.
Enjoy your stay in this lake shore paradise.

I was a professor of psychology in a college. I ran two high tech companies, and sat on boards of international companies when I discovered the magical place of San Marcos. Today I'm a life traveler looking for the secret of happiness and wishing to share my learnings here, in the magic of San Marcos.
