Area description:
The Plantage, or "plantation" is one of Amsterdam's first suburbs, and is named after the botanical and herb gardens that were popular here in the 1800s. The Artis Zoo has been one of the area's star attractions since it opened in 1838 , as the first-ever zoo in continental Europe. Nature lovers will also want to check out the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam (Amsterdam Botanical Garden) established in 1682.
The Jewish Historical Museum (Joods Historisch Museum) traces Jewish spirituality, history and culture over the millennia with exhibits spread over three former shuln (temples), retrofitted and adjoined into one masterful museum. Another family favorite, is the Tropics Museum (Tropenmuseum).
The University of Amsterdam has many buildings around the Plantage, and as a result, many student cafes and bars are in the neighborhood. The Kriterion is a place where intellectuals meet for coffee or to play some of the many board games scattered around the café. Most importantly, the Kirterion is the city's main alternative cinema, with interesting films from all over the world.

This is a charming place for anyone looking for a houseboat experience in Amsterdam. We used it for a family reunion with one couple and two single men. The bedrooms are small but ok for a couple that enjoy being close. I slept on the living room couch which was good for my back. I didn't try unfolding it as a bed. The best thing was the large living room/kitchen area which was perfect for a family grouping. We could have breakfast at different times and hang out until we were ready to go out much better than the option which would have been two hotel rooms. The heat was good, the kitchen worked fine (although we didn't use the stove or dishwasher). There is a small clothes washer/drier, but it gave me an error message and locked up on the drier cycle. The controls are in English, but I couldn't find a solution even in the instruction manual on the web. I turned it off, then ran through the quick was cycle and hung the clothes up to dry. I wouldn't recommend doing a washing just before you have to leave. In the bathroom, the water from the shower flows into the entire bathroom including where the toilet is. There is a squeegee thing you use after showering to get most of the water out. If you don't do this, it will seep through the wall into the living room. I didn't meet Wim personally, but the service he uses was readily available by phone whenever I needed something. They sent a woman with sheets for the couch. It is important to have a working cell phone, you can buy a card for most phones at the airport if you don't have one. The internet service was excellent. All in all, we enjoyed the stay very much.

The houseboat was very cosy and met our needs well. Not a luxury experience, but it had plenty of space to relax and all of the basic accommodations.

This was a great place for my friend and I. It was a short a walk/tram/metro from the city center and hustle. Check in and out was excellent through the managing company. We loved staying on the boat. It is very homey with an updated bathroom and working kitchen. We cooked breakfast every morning! Great place to stay if you don't want to be in the middle of it all the time.

Owner was organized and responsive prior to our arrival. The boat is unique and the most quintessential of Amsterdam house-boats. The neighborhood is relatively quiet and far from touristy. You really feel as though you're living in the city and not just visiting. The boat is a boat and while the finishes are good, don't expect 4-5 star living. There's a great grocery store, coffee shop, pizza and dinner place nearby. Great internet on the boat as well.

Very well managed by an agency, which means friendly reliable communication and great service. The boat is cozy and nice, really a treat to come home to after a long day of museums and eating and nightlife. I would absolutely return, but be aware that it is a solid 15 minute walk from the real core of the city, no big deal at all, just a consideration.

our host was great-he kept in touch prior to our stay and during-quick replies to emails/questions. the area was the perfect area-near the Metro and the tram, away from the crazy city center. Accommodations on a boat can be checked off my bucket list! thank you Jacob!

The houseboat was nice with lots of towels and blankets. I would make sure the heat (open the release valves and check if thermostat works with Jacob), washer/dryer instructions if needed, spare keys exist in case of issues, and wifi is working initially at check-in. FYI, the door to the houseboat is difficult to close. Jacob is quick to respond to any problems.
