Below some practical information and house rules will follow.
Some strange, but nice to know about rules in Norway:
The bars usually close at 02 during weekdays and 03 during weekends.
If you want to buy wine/liqour, you have to do that at a special store called Vinmonopolet located in at the mall Nerstranda, which is located at Strandtorget in the city center. It is not allowed to sell wine or lickour in the stores in Norway. Funny, but true.
However, If you want to buy beer you can do that in the grocery stores before 20.00 during weekdays and 18.00 on Saturdays. The nearest grocery store five minutes walking from the apartment.
In Norway there are strict regulations for house noice. Please do not play loud music etc. after 23.00 during week days and 00.00 during weekends.
Theres no smoking inside in Norway, this applies to both private houses including ours, bars and restaurants. If you do care for a smoke, you will find an ashtray at the porch outside.
It is prohibited having a fire extinguisher in every house. In case of need you will find it in the hallway by the bedrooms.
We’ve made ready bedroom for you. You will find towels at the bedroom and when you need a new one you will find this in the bathroom shelf, fourth from the top.
Feel free to use all the house equipment you need.
The internet access code is “telenor0206uke”, the network name is "qbkaccqtfwpdo", feel free to use the internet as much as you like.
The washing machine for clothes is located in the bathroom, it is rather self explanatory, but to use regular cloth washing program press on button, shift the wheel button to cottons, choose temperature and duration, press start key until you hear it start. We do not own a dryer, but you’ll find a cloth drying stand on the porch or in the bathroom dependent on the weather outside :)
To use the dish washing machine press the play button inside
To use the cooking oven, press the power button, chose plate by pressing the little round key signaling each plate, regulate heat with the icons from left to right, right being hottest. Never use the hottest level (14) unless you are cooking water. The P is a power button for cooking things fast, such as water, eggs etc.
Note that the oven fan never must be turned of, it is supposed to be tuned at 1 all the time.
In the refrigerator you will find some things for you that is typically Norwegian:
1) Beer from the northernmost brewery in the world, Mack.
2) Brown cheese, which is commonly used on bread in Norway
3) Mackerel in a can, which also is very common to eat on bread in Norway (and extremely healthy).
Feel free to use other things in the refrigerator as well!
Tromsø has a garbage recycling system. You will find the orange and green bags in the locker over the refrigerator. The green one are for food waste, the orange for paper and cardboard waste. The plastic bags in the shelf under the kitchen sink are for everything else. Do not care about the other colored bags, they are for waste you probably won’t make use of during your stay. If the garbage gets full you can throw it in the big black trash cans outside by the stairs to the house.
Remember to lock all doors when you are not in the apartment, it is only two doors, the main door and the door to the porch/terrace. The exit will close itself when you leave, so remember the keys :)
You will find washing equipment in locker above the waching machine at the bathroom, in the kitchen under the sink.
Things to do in Tromso:
If you want to go out for drinks we can recommend some of our favorite places: Perez, located in Skippergata, Café Sånn located on Erling Bangsunds plass and Verdensteateret located in Storgata. All these places are located 10 - 15 minutes walk from the apartment.
Theres also a really cozy coffee shop in Vestregata called Backbeat. They are also selling vinyl records. Treat them nice, cause they are good friends of ours :)
If you want to dine out we can recommend Fiskecompagniet located in Killengreens gate, Presis located in Storgata and Bardus Bistro located in Amtmannsgate. All places within 15 minutes walk from our apartment. Tromsø is a rather small city. Fine dining also possible at De fire roser in Grønnegata and at Emmas drømmekjøkken in Kirkegata.
Here are a website that can tell you more:
"Visit Tromsø" (website gets hidden by airbnb, so we reccomend googeling it, also available in english).
Theres also a couple of museums in the city: Perspektivet Museum, Polar Museum, University museum, Northern Norwegian Art museum.
In Breivika (the university campus area) you will find the arctic botanical garden and a northern lights planetary.
You can also visit Prestvannet and Telegrafbukta, two of the popular green areas in the city, popular among the Tromsø-locals. If you want to go outside the city we recommend to visit the white beach in Grøtfjorden. In July there is also a rock music festival called Buktafestivalen in Telegrafbukta with a free event at the daytime saturday. Check out dates at by googeling bukta + tromsø + festival.
If there is anything else, or we have forgotten anything send an email to (email hidden).
We would very much like you to leave the house the same way you found it. :)
