Our trip to Palermo was a surprise for my husband's 40th birthday, and this property was the icing on the cake! The location was perfect - we could walk to virtually anywhere in the Historical Center, but it was far enough from the touristy areas that we were able to really settle in and live like locals for the week. We spent every morning and evening on the beautiful terrace soaking in the glorious view of the harbor and Monte Pellegrino. The neighborhood is lively and friendly, especially in September when they celebrate the patron saint of the city. We had a front row seat to the festivities all week, which included a neighborhood marching band, residents showering the streets with confetti from their windows, and even a fireworks display!
A few things to keep in mind if you are thinking of booking this wonderful apartment. It is on the 5th floor of a building that does not have an elevator, so be sure to either pack lightly or use baggage that can be easily carried up several flights of stairs. My husband and I used 30-liter backpacks and managed just fine. As you will probably read in some of the other reviews, the bathroom in the apartment is somewhat small - but what bathroom in a traditional European building isn't? We can assure you that the location and view totally make up for any inconvenience caused by a small bathroom! On Saturday nights, the Kursaal Kahlesa restaurant on the corner becomes a dance club, so you may hear some loud music at times, but only on Saturdays. Otherwise, the apartment is just wonderful - amply stocked with dishes, cutlery, a washing machine, television and stereo, books to read, and all the necessities to make you feel right at home! There are two green-grocers just in front of the property where you can get fresh, cheap veggies and fruits, and a bakery just beside one of the green-grocers as well. One block behind the property are two very lovely coffee shops with fresh pastries, tobacco products, etc.
Francesca, of course, was a delightful hostess! She was very friendly and knowledgeable, and always quick to respond to any inquiries that we had while staying there. She has provided a large map of the historical center with useful information on historical significance, cultural practices, and must-do activities in the Historical Center. She will also provide you with a list of suggested restaurants and bars that are highly recommended by the locals.
In summary, if you are looking for a place in Palermo with fantastic location and superb views, this is the place for you! We are already planning our next visit and will be staying here for sure!
