We really want you to have a wonderful holiday and know that it's best to get clear on the ground rules straight away so so there's no confusion. Firstly if there is anything you need in the property that is not provided please ask. Everyone has different needs and we really want to meet them if we can. So if it's more cooking equipment or another pillow just say the word.
We have a good selection of outdoor furniture which you are welcome to move around to suit your needs, so long as it ends up back where it started. Please do not take indoor furniture outside and please only smoke outside the house, we have provided a sand bucket for butts and would be grateful if you could use it.
We have a septic tank that can block and no-one likes sorting that one out so please only flush toilet paper down the toilets.
We have some lovely railings inside the property which will rust if wet, so please use the washing line to dry clothes and towels, not the railings.
In order to keep the barn light and airy we have big glass barn doors. The downside is that light floods through them and into our bedroom if the lights are left on overnight, so we'd be very grateful if the last person to bed turned all the lights off too.
If you would like to have friends over for a meal etc please let us know and we do not expect you to invite extra guests to stay.
This is our home and we will be sharing the garden and swimming pool so we would appreciate it if you would clear kids clothes and towels away at night and if the children could be quiet in the gardens after 10pm we would be very grateful.
And this is the big rule so I'm going to put it in bold: No glass or crockery by the pool at all please, not ever, not even if you are really, really careful! Thank you very much. The thought of tearing the liner and the pool being out of action for the summer is the only thing that keeps me awake at night.
If you have any accidents please let us know immediately so we can put it right.
When you leave please dispose of all your rubbish, and leave the house swept.
Thank you and have a great holiday.
I am torn between our vibrant, liberal, foodie corner of Kemptown, Brighton and our remote, star-filled, peaceful home in South West France. And when I am not living there I think about going north and being in Scotland from where my family originates. I have two children and two step children, whose ages span three decades and have worked for most of my life in communications. This year I am finishing a novel, improving my French and helping out in the General Election.
