The spacious one bedroom yurt is located high on a forested hillside in the middle of 15+ acres. Come enjoy a natural and serene getaway with all the comforts of home, including a full kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and a wood burning stove!
The yurt is perched on a large raised deck high on a mountainside looking out over the fields of the Virginia Piedmont and Old Rag Mountain in the Shenandoah National Park. Complete privacy awaits - there are no other homes within half a mile! The only thing you will hear at night are the sounds of the forest. The yurt will comfortably sleep four (two in the queen sized bed in the bedroom and two on the queen sized fold-out couch). The screened-in porch provides a relaxing place to listen to the birds and enjoy nature, safe from mosquitoes and rain.
There is a steep gravel driveway leading up to the yurt, which is approximately 1/3 mile off the highway. We have had all sorts of cars do just fine making it up the hill, but it can be daunting. ***November 2015 note: Toyota Priuses have trouble getting traction on the hill *** Please note there is a flight of stairs to reach the deck and the main entry. There is an Xbox for DVD movies and games and a VCR player, but no reception for TV. Cell phone reception is lacking at the yurt, so be prepared to unplug. There is a portable a/c unit for the bedroom for hot summer nights.
We will leave you alone to enjoy the tranquility of the yurt unless you need something! There is a booklet with local information, including maps and ideas for things to do included in the yurt.
PLEASE NOTE: there is a limit of four people and two dogs in the yurt or on the surrounding grounds.
There is ample wildlife in the area, including black bear, deer, raccoons, foxes, bald eagles, hawks, and mountain lions. The animals will leave you and the yurt alone as long as you don't leave garbage unattended outside! Lastly, there are ticks in the brush, so be mindful, check yourself, and wear bug protection if you go into the woods.
Please don't leave any smelly garbage laying around on the porch because of the critters! There is a lidded garbage can in the yurt. Pets are ok, but please don't smoke in the yurt!
