Please visit our two favorite places: the VA arboretum on the 200+ acres of Blandy farm (about 2 miles away to the back entrance) and the small town of Millwood, across highway 50, where they have the restored historic grain mill, an art gallery, antique store and the centerpiece - the Locke Country Store with its gourmet country food, great wines, cheeses and assorted local and prepared foods. For monthly rentals, we also ask that you cover electricity which typically amount to about $150-200, depending on season.
Basically, treat the place like your own - or perhaps your Mother-in-Law's ;-) While nothing here is precious, this is a beautiful custom built cabin with nice personal items and artwork and we expect people to enjoy this place quietly and with respect. No smoking of any kind in the house or on the porches. No pets, although smaller dogs are possible if we discuss it in advance and a deposit is paid. Please use the fire screen on wood stove if you leave the doors open. Do NOT leave the wood stove doors open if you leave the house, even to go outside. Any severe scratches to floors, damage to furniture, broken dishes, appliances, etc. should be reported to us so we can fix it before the next guest. IF you find something broken or otherwise in bad shape, please contact us right away and we will attempt to sort it out.
Trampoline is used at your own risk! No more than one person at a time and if you have children, you must supervise them while they are on it. Basically use your common sense.
Before departure, we assume guests will clean up sufficiently that the house can be readied with a 2-3 hour maid service (not including time to do laundry and make beds). This means that baths are cleaned up, towels set aside, kitchen counters floors are basically swept and clear of any food remnants, dishes are done, any food items taken out are put back in secured spots, compost is tossed into the field, recycling and garbage is taken away, etc. Any housecleaner time required after 3 hours will be charged at $25/hour. Please turn off lights and be sure that all doors and windows are closed and locked as instructed and that key is back where it belongs before you leave. Thanks and Enjoy.
