Perfect as a writer’s or artist’s retreat---two cabins (bedroom & kitchen) connected by a covered breezeway, with deck, nestled in the canyons between Tarpley & Utopia. Outdoor shower under an old growth juniper offers an immersion into nature.
This place is off the beaten track, quiet & peaceful, close to nature & a sanctuary for the spirit. I can be prepared to offer a guided property/plant walk to point out highlights.
There is also a treehouse/platform built in a white oak tree & outfitted with a hammock You are welcome to climb at your own risk for a bird's eye view.
Lost Lane is a gravel road, so travel slowly. It is navigable by motor cycles, although a little rough. My old Miata is close to the ground & handles it okay when going slowly.
There is no television or telephone & cell signal is iffy, although texts seem to come through in the kitchen. But you are welcome to come sit on the west deck of the main house for wifi for emails.
I plan on greeting guests & being available for special needs, but many people come this way for the solitude, so I appreciate that too.
Optional for additional charge (please reserve ahead):
plant walk with I.D. of native medicinal plants, yoga class, herbal consultation, energy-based bodywork (Reiki, etc)
I trust that guests will enjoy this natural setting while treating it with great respect and leave no trace of their presence - no collecting, littering or carving on trees. The madrones here are extremely special & difficult to grow elsewhere. Please consider the outdoors here as my living room.
I recycle glass, aluminum, tin & plastics (1-7) and will make it easy for guests to do the same with a labeled receptacle. Thank you for leaving a smaller footprint on the planet.
No smoking inside. Ashtrays are provided outside.
Please practice water conservation as best you can.
If a campfire is lit, the water hose must be turned on & nearby.
Please strip bed when you leave.
I am an herbalist, naturalist & photographer. I love being in the country near wildlife & stewarding beautiful properties. I've lived in the Texas hill country for 8 years & the wildlife continues to fascinate me. Ravens nest in the cliff wall of the canyon & often fly overhead, croaking their harsh call. My cabins are a prefect artist's or writer's retreat. The deck is surrounded by Little Blue Stem, a native tall prairie grass.
I've always enjoyed places off the beaten path, connected to nature. While completing a graduate degree in Environmental Studies, I traveled & worked in Africa back in the 90's, studying hippo communication. It was a dream come true to be immersed in Africa like that. Now, 20 years later, this place in the hill country is the closest I've come to being as close to nature as I was in Africa. No, there are no hippos or crocodiles, but there are white-tailed deer, fox, rabbit, coyote, armadillo & sometimes a gazelle can be seen.
I teach herb classes & I love getting others excited about the healing properties found in common plants. I enjoy giving plant walks on the property. I offer yoga classes & herbal consults & energy-based body work. It's important that my guests feel safe, comfortable & relaxed. The kitchen will be stocked with some basic food items. I'm also happy to offer an optional food basket upon request.
