25 minutes from Melbourne's Tullamarine airport but a world away in the beautiful Macedon Ranges. Enjoy 120 acres of river valley and volcanic grasslands in a bright, spacious room with own bathroom, kitchen and entrance. Kangaroos at your doorstep!
Paradoxa is a large studio room in a strawbale house on the farm Newlands5 in the Macedon Ranges, with sweeping views to the river valley and Great Dividing Range, framed in a dense stand of Acacia Paradoxa. Just a ten minute drive to the township of Clarkefield provides access to the Melbourne-Bendigo train line. Timber floors and windowed walls make for a beautiful light filled space, with all the comforts of home, from the double bed and modern bathroom to the sitting, dining and self-catering facilities (fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, electric frying pan, as well as cutlery, plates, cups, glasses etc). The nearest shops are 15 minutes drive so be prepared (or ask ahead for some shopping to be done on your behalf if planning to dine in). There is no television either, providing the opportunity for conversation, long walks, reading and relaxing, or just listening to the sounds of the countryside and its inhabitants.
Treat the farm as your own. Awake to the sound of birds and the sunrise, stroll the paddocks and creek banks, saying hello to the heritage Waler horses and Dexter cows and probably the black swamp wallaby who likes to snack on our tree plantings. Sit on the verandah and watch the kangaroos and the sunset or sunrise over the distant Macedon Ranges or Great Dividing Range. Or head out to the galleries, eateries and wineries in the many historic nearby townships.
Whilst Paradoxa is joined to the house you can be as separate as you wish to be, as there is separate parking and entrance and no direct entry from the main house. Access via wide verandahs is easy should you want to socialise with the household, we are out and about and happy to be around or not as needed. We live on the property and have regular visitors who ride and plant trees and generally join in with life on the farm.
If you have an interest in horses you will love meeting our heritage Waler horse, a unique and special experience. Fall in love with Virtuoso the stallion, and enjoy the antics of the younger Waler set. Admire Grady and the girls (cows). As the property is volcanic grassland which is no longer intensively grazed the wildlife is prolific, we see kangaroos, echidnas, swamp wallabies, lots of grass birds, and parrots, cockatoos, eagles and falcons along with assorted lizards and frogs. In our spare time we are revegatating the waterways and removing weeds, if you are lucky enough to visit at planting time you could join in if you want to!
If you are a couple travelling with one child we can accommodate your child in a traditional Australian swag on the floor of the room, just enquire at time of booking. We have more than one swag so could 'squeeze' in two children, am willing to give it a go if you are. No extra charge for swags for child(ren) on the floor, or on the large verandah if the weather is kind!
We prefer peace and quiet so all can enjoy the benefits of a relaxing country lifestyle. No rowdy late nights please! We are happy to provide social interaction so you can learn more about the farm and the animals and surrounds, or just advice and assistance as you seek out. No smoking preferred due to the rolling grassland surrounds, and no pets as we have our own Chow Chow dogs who think we built the verandahs just for them.
Hello there, don't know about you but I can't live without fresh air, sweeping views, and my Waler horses. Having travelled to many places around the world on business and on holiday I know that there is no place like home. So, enjoy the best of both worlds: visit Melbourne and stay in my home at Newlands5! Ask the horses, cows, dogs, and assorted wildlife, they reckon there is nowhere better.
