A very spacious room on the first floor. The house was built in 1905, so it has traditional high ceilings. It has a double bed, a single bed, 2 chairs and a table. There are other rooms which may be available if you are a larger group.
This room is very large and spacious, with a bay window and high, decorated ceiling.
Guests have access to 2 bathrooms. The main bathroom has a large shower, toilet and hand basin. There is also a small bathroom with a toilet and small hand basin.
We provide cereal, milk, bread and eggs etc. for breakfast and guests can use the toaster, kettle and microwave to make their breakfast. Guests can make tea and coffee at any time and sit in the kitchen if they wish. However, we do not allow use of the hob or oven to make meals.
Guests are very welcome to use the living room. The downstairs room has a TV but the upstairs rooms don't, so if you want to watch TV, feel free to use the living room.
We love spending time with our guests, but if anyone prefers to explore, or simply chill out by themselves, we respect that of course.
I work from home usually, so I'm always around to see to guests.
My house is actually very convenient for Newcastle Airport with The Metro taking you to The 'University' Metro station, only 5 minute's walk from the house.
If you are a family group or large party, I have other rooms on Airbnb in this house. Just ask and I'll let you know if they are available.
Quiet after 11pm.
Please close windows when you go out.
Only the toaster and microwave can be used to make breakfast. Sorry, we don't allow use of the hob and oven.
I live in a large house here in Sunderland, with my 21-year-old son Jason. My partner, Michael is here quite a lot too. I love doing Airbnb and at the moment, I have 3 rooms available, so we can welcome family groups as well.
I really like living in Sunderland. I pop into town most days, for some exercise and fresh air first thing. There are really nice parks round here too. I love going to the beach, especially at dawn or at dusk. The reason you feel better at the seaside is that there are lots of negative ions in the air, making you feel clear-headed and more energetic! I like the fact that most places you would want to visit in Sunderland are within easy walking distance and public transport is simple and easy for trips to Newcastle or Durham.
Some people don't realise what a nice place Sunderland is. When I have guests from other countries, they occasionally mention this - and they are surprised when I tell them that people sometimes have a negative view! It's so nice to get positive feedback from my guests. Also, I thought when I started Airbnb that I would be very busy in July for the Airshow, but actually, that wasn't the case! Sunderland Airshow is great fun and quite spectacular. The coastal venue is a perfect backdrop for all the planes and gives a great panoramic view. There is also a band and a night time display on the opening night.
If I sound like a bit of a home bird, well, you're dead right! I'm not big on travelling myself, but love to listen to guests talking about their travels. Mostly I like to find out about different cultures and attitudes. I suppose, for me, Airbnb is like travelling without leaving home:) I think people enjoy hot weather and pools, (I don't!), but I get to know my international guests maybe better than if I was in their country. My guests seem to enjoy being here, which is heartwarming. I just aim to be one of the many "canny" people in Sunderland, friendly and helpful and happy to chat and have a laugh!
