Self contained cozy studio unit nestled under towering Giant Redwood and Fir trees, the Sonoma coast is 20 minutes to the west and world class wineries and microbreweries start 5 minutes to the east. Enjoy the Redwood deck, bbq fireplace, and hot tub.
The view of the tall trees going hundreds of feet into the air is the most unique feature of the property. The door from the cozy 288 square foot guesthouse opens to the large redwood deck, with softub hottub, bbq, fireplace, lounge chair, dining table with chairs, and café table. The guesthouse has a very comfortable queen size bed, a full tiled bathroom with jetted oversize bathtub, a full kitchenette, a TV with dvd player and Netflix access (no cable), fast wifi, and a desk with leather office chair. There is a ipod dock and clock radio/alarm and a Bluetooth mini speaker system you can bring out on the deck for music.
We typically require a two night minimum, but you may ask for one night. We might increase the price for a one night stay or not be able to accommodate, but we can if we will.
The guesthouse is so comfortable for sleeping and that our guests often find themselves sleeping in till 11am...wondering what happened as they "always" get up early. Set an alarm if you need to get up.
The guesthouse is also an occasional mini-micro brewery. I have an all grain brewing setup and brew 5 gallon batches of hoppy ales right in the kitchenette. For guests visiting the Sonoma County breweries, there are several ale growlers in the room you can borrow.
This property has many nice features, but also has a few things about it that some people may not like, so we want to tell you about them.
1)Our staircase up to the guesthouse has 55 stairs, and walking up the stairs you will have to 2)pass an old cabin. Once at the top of the stairs and at the guesthouse...all you can see are the trees...without the old cabin getting in the way. If you can't do stairs...you would probably be more comfortable somewhere else.
3)The hot tub was new to us and fully refurbished in January 2014. In order to keep it and our bbq and table area free from leaves, cones and sap, we have put up a large tarp that acts as a roof. If you can't stand the idea of having a tarp covering half the deck... you may want to stay somewhere else.
4)Hwy 116 is a rural highway at the bottom of the stairs...you can hear road noise from the deck. Its far enough away that it shouldn't bother you unless you are very sensitive, but wanted to disclose the possible sounds. The room is well insulated with good windows...you may hear the occasional heavy truck roll by but traffic is not audible inside.
Unit has not quite a full kitchen...its a full kitchenette. small fridge, small oster toaster convection oven that boasts you theoretically can roast a full chicken, full microwave, 2 burner hotplate, and hot water jug. simple cookware allows you to make eggs, spaghetti, toasted sandwiches, put together salads, reheat leftovers, etc.... its not really setup for making a 5 course meal but you can do most things you need to do in the kitchen. If you need a utensil or pan that is not there...you can borrow from us upstairs.
Guests have full access, except for the home owners area which is the floor above the guest house. Hot Tub access is extended to guests with the caveat that makeup, lotions and oils must be washed off before entry. Please shower before tubbing. Other than the owners using the hot tub for about 30 minutes a day, it is available for use.
We have friends that do ale and wine tours, who will drive you and your car to as many wineries and brewpubs as you can handle, and drive you back here..45 bux an hour. We also have a friend who is a commercial pilot with a Cessna 182 that does flight tours over the north bay including golden gate (URL HIDDEN) hour flight including a flyover of the golden gate bridge and Sonoma coast is about $220.
Please feel free to enjoy yourself, but please be aware of quiet hours from 10:30 pm to 8:30 am. Please ask if you would like to have guests come over. Smoking is ok on the deck. Ashes can be put into the fireplace. Pets are usually a no go, but you can ask. If your dog is very well behaved and you can clean up we may allow it. We have a rabbit that stays with us upstairs but I cannot guarantee a rabbit hair or two may not be in the apartment.
Were busy much of the time but we love our county and love telling people where to go to have the most fun. Kim works for a winery company and Jason brews beer and between us we can tell you where some of the best places to go are and why.
Jason and Kim...Jason is in the solar industry and Kim the wine industry...we kayak and hike, Jason plays music and makes beer, IPA's in particular. We live in the Redwoods in Sonoma County.
