This apartment has water issues. Leaks from the toilet and shower, leaks from above, as you can see from the water stains on the walls/ceiling. After taking a shower it felt like I was living in a damp cave. Sunlight doesn't make it to the one awkwardly covered window. After the second night I walked out of the apartment into the sunshine and blue skies and booked another Airbnb that was above ground with daylight included.
Located in the Alfama area, a perfect spot to stay for an extended stay in Lisbon. Size is ideal for a couple. Supermarket is about a 10 minute walk if you feel like cooking. Great location if you want to here the Fado music at night. Lisbon square is about an 8 minute walk. Hosts were amazing and easy to stay in contact with.
The neighborhood is great for experiencing fado culture and being in the heart of old town. The only things to note are that the apartment was quite muggy (it was humid/hot during my stay) so things took a long time to dry and smelled musty (duvet especially). There were no additional toiletries during my stay (hand soap, shower stuff) so bring your own. Basic kitchen stuff provided, but if you're a coffee drinker bring your own. All in all it was a good place to crash after long days of exploring. The shower has great pressure and hot water, which is a big bonus! Communication was great. Lots of good places to eat/listen to fado nearby too.
I felt very welcomed by Francisco and his friend, Joao. The place was accurately described. The place is ideally located in Alfama where the sounds of the city including garbage pickup at 12 midnight and Fado singers heard every night from nearby restaurants add to the experience. If you are looking for a place that puts you right in the action of what Lisboa is about, this the place to stay. If you are looking for a quiet retreat away from it all, look elsewhere. For me, it was the perfect place to stay.
