Beautiful, sunny apartment right in the heart of downtown Madison (just 2 blocks from the Capitol). Walk or bike to everything. In this private space, you'll have a sunroom, spacious living rm w/ fireplace, wood floors, full kitchen, & clawfoot tub.
Gorgeous, historic apartment in the First Settlement neighborhood of Madison. Walk to Monona Terrace (1/2 block) or the Capitol (2 blocks). Bike paths abound and you'll find two city bike stations less than a block away. Pick up food at the nation's largest farmer's market (2 blocks away), then grill dinner outside in a well-tended private garden.
Inside, you'll have a Sunroom overlooking the garden, well-lighted Living Room w/ wood-burning fireplace, and full kitchen. The Bathroom has a clawfoot tub w/ shower. Built-in leaded glass bookcases are well-stocked with reading materials. The Blue Moose will greet you with his version of a smile.
Listed as "1 Bedroom" in an attempt to understate rather than overstate: A queen bed in the sunroom is the perfect place to sleep and is the default sleeping area, but in a separate bedroom there's also a single bunk bed (with desk below). Note that the bunk bed has to be accessed via ladder. One more person could sleep comfortably on the couch (I'm 6'2" and can fully stretch out.)
Wifi is free. Laundry facilities (coin-op) are downstairs.
You'll find a well-stocked S'more Station next to the functional wood fireplace (I'll have wood ready for you to use.)
You can use just about everything, including staples like spices and pantry items. I like to share! This is your space to use while you're here, and I want you to feel comfortable.
You're welcome to use any of my various coffee contraptions (pour-over, Chemex, Aeropress, etc.). It's important to me that my guests drink good coffee. (But I'll leave out some tea and hot chocolate, too.)
This is a private space for you to enjoy Madison. I'm available if you need me via phone, email, or text, but I'll stay out of your way unless you need something.
-On-street parking is available outside, but fees/time limits apply at certain times.
-Parking Garage (easier than moving your car around during the day) is available across the street.
-There is limited free parking about 10-12 blocks away. I'm happy to direct you toward the right spot if you like.
-SUMMER WARNING: The apartment has A/C, but it's a smaller unit and is meant to manage the heat. Often, I just open windows and rely on the through-breeze from the lake. If you like an apartment that feels like a refrigerator in the summer, this may not be your perfect listing!
-WINTER WARNING: Things change with the seasons here! By November, B-cycles disappear for the season, the garden is not-so-green, and the lake freezes. Madison is beautiful in the winter, too. And being close to everything means less chance of freezing en route to wherever you're going. Also: when it's cold outside, there's no place more cozy than in front of the fireplace.
The rules are pretty standard:
-Please let me know in advance if you'd like to check-in before 2 PM or check-out after noon (I can usually accommodate with advance notice).
-Please be respectful of others in the apartment.
-No smoking inside.
-No guns are allowed on the premises.
-I'm sorry, but no pets.
-You can grill out whenever the grill is available, but if you know in advance you want to use the grill and picnic table, sign up on the reservation sheet in the mailroom. (I can sign up for you ahead of time if you like.)
-The wood floors are beautiful; help keep them that way by cleaning up any spills immediately and lifting furniture that needs to be moved.
I'm the kind of person who'd rather stay at a B&B and meet interesting people in the places I visit than stay at a hotel. I don't need a host to entertain me, but I'm always happy to learn about someone else's interests. I like to hike, bike, and read. I think I might be a Virgo. Also, writing descriptions like this weirds me out just a little.
