Race fans, looking for a great place to stay for races at the "VIR" or Martinsville? Maybe a trip to Old Salem or the furniture market, a holiday craft show or possibly even a great concert! Look no more. Our upstairs apartment has everything you need for a great stay with amazing lake views!! Our apartment has a very large living/dining room and bedroom with huge dormer windows that flood the rooms with natural light. If you're lucky, you might even see some of our resident wildlife!
If privacy is what you are looking for, look no further!! If you want peace and quiet with amazing views, your search is over!! We are a rural listing in the foothills of one of God's magnificent creations, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains. Don't let that alarm you because we are only minutes from some of NC's largest cities and all that they have to offer!! As you drive down to the end of our half mile long driveway and round that last left curve, you'll find the dream home we completed for our retirement years. We have finally gotten some great looking flower beds and a gorgeous rose garden, too. Our home is tucked away at the very back end of almost 19 beautifully wooded acres overlooking Farmer Lake here in Yanceyville, NC. Needless to say, our stunning surroundings are still "under construction" as we are just before adding that deck on the lakeside of the house, that will be for your enjoyment, too, once it's finished hopefully this fall. Although we are rural, we are minutes away from a Food Lion grocery store, and an Amish store that sells bulk food items, deli sandwiches, and hand dipped ice cream. If you are a fan of a great "Philly Cheese steak sandwich" like me, I can give you directions to the best I've ever had!! And, yes, we have the usual fast food restaurants close to the Food Lion. Last but not least there's even a public 18 hole golf course, in the event you want to play a couple of rounds of golf. Danville, Va. is just 15 minutes away with any type of shopping you could possibly need. There is a military tank museum that we just recently visited and there's also a history museum that covers the role tobacco played in the growth of this area, as well as a children's science museum. The "Thomas Day Home" in Milton, has a very interesting program explaining how this "free man of color" built very expensive furniture, stairway newels and posts, as well as cabinets that are still in use in the older homes of the wealthy land owners that have been refurbished like the "Bartlett Yancey Home" right here in Yanceyville that today still stands and was last used as a high end restaurant. If you've got the cash it is for sale. His furniture was shipped world wide by way of river barges and wagon trails to the larger cities and to the coastal areas to be shipped to Europe and other countries. While you're over in Milton, be sure to give "Aunt Millie's Pizza" a try as it is the best pizza around!!! And just a couple of minutes from there, check out the Virginia International Raceway (known as the "VIR" by the locals), which is mere minutes away from Milton!!! It seems there is some kind of racing event over there almost every weekend, especially over the summer months. Martinsville, Va. is about 30 to 40 minutes away and as most racing fans know, there are NASCAR events being held there twice a racing season. Greensboro with it's major Classic Christmas Craft Shows the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after Thanksgiving, big name music concerts and major sporting events are 30 minutes away. Winston Salem with Old Salem is about 45 minutes south west of us. Thomasville and it's bi-annual Furniture Market is just south of Greensboro. Mebane, with it's Tanger Outlets and amazing small town antique stores are 25 minutes south east of us and Durham is another twenty minutes further east with South Pointe Mall, Duke University with it's campus, the VA Medical Center, as well as Duke University Medical Center, too. At the end of your day, whichever direction you choose to follow, you will come back to the peace and quite of "Our Secluded Little Peace of Heaven" right here on earth!!
Our guests are encouraged to use the apartment as if it's their own!! The only thing we DO NOT allow is smoking in the house. Your kids will enjoy exploring our acreage with it's creeks feeding into the lake. When a summer storm passes by dumping a lot of rain you can really hear the water rushing down to the lake. Unfortunately, the lake is a watershed for the town of Yanceyville, therefore there's no swimming!! There is a boat landing just minutes away if fishing is your thing, hey you might even catch dinner!!
We will be available to answer any questions that may come up as well as short cuts that are available to the MANY various activities. We can be involved as much or as little as our guests desire us to be. Most importantly, we want you to feel like family and enjoy your visit enough to want to come back as many times as you wish!! Our home, is your home!!!

The biggest thing we are very adamant about is NO SMOKING IN THE APARTMENT!!! Any infraction of this rule will result in immediate eviction with no refund!!!! Smoking is acceptable on the upstairs entry deck as long as the door is closed. We will have a butt receptacle on the upper deck for your use. Please do not toss butts over the deck railing. We will not accept any overnight guests other than the number agreed upon when you reserve our apartment. We are a very quiet couple and we expect the same of you. There will be no parties or loud music. We expect you to treat our home/apartment with the same respect that you would expect of visitors to your home. Acceptance of small dogs will be a case by case decision with us having the last say!! Lastly, I'm sorry, but, we CANNOT have any cats as my husband, Matthew, is severely allergic to them.
I am a married grandmother with three grown wonderful children. I am a disabled/retired registered nurse. My husband, (of 33 years), Matthew and I are born again Christians that strive to adhere to the Ten Commandments. Together we built our beautiful dream home on almost nineteen wooded acres overlooking the lake here in Yanceyville, NC. in 2013. In the event you're not familiar with Yanceyville, we are just south of Danville, Va. Matthew and I are very friendly and outgoing and neither of us ever meets stranger. We have two little Dorkies, named Tucker and his sister Tippy, that keeps us on our toes. We both love house plants, and every window sill in our great room is filled with house plants. My first experience with Airbnb was back in 2012 when my daughter and I used Airbnb when we took a vacation to Washington, DC for a week. Our experience was truly amazing with a stay in a penthouse suite in Tacoma Park, just blocks from the Capital Building!! Matthew and I just very recently used Airbnb for lodging in Hendersonille, NC for one of my nephew's wedding and we have lodging arranged for another nephew's wedding in June. So we really know how this system works!! If there is anything I left out, please feel free to email me or call as I am usually home. If no answer at home, just call my cell as it is always with me, unless I've had one of those "senior" moments. In that case just leave a message on one or both and I promise I will get back to you!!! Airbnb asks if I have a "life motto" and indeed I do. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!!" I truly believe that if everyone treated others like they wanted to be treated, the world would be a much nicer place for all of us!!! I have a couple of hobbies I love. I love to cook so don't be surprised to find homemade cookies and or brownies on arrival. I'm an avid crocheter and a beader as well and I love making jewelry with glass beads and other materials. One of these days when I win the lottery, I seriously plan to travel the world from one end to the other and you can bet I will be using Airbnb to make my destination reservations. That's just how happy I've been with them!!! We will gladly let you know of interesting places to see while you're here, if you have the spare time. We can be involved with you as much or as little as you like. So, give us a try, as we don't think you'll be disappointed!!
