Vilas is Madison’s historic and quiet neighborhood that is close to everything. This room is dedicated to AirBnB guests year-round and has tons of space, a very comfortable bed, and great privacy from the rest of the house. Guests love it because of the location, wide antique floor boards, all the great wood, the trees outside, and the nice light. Easy parking. Half mile to campus. 1.7 miles to Capitol. A few blocks to parks, lakes, and Monroe St. shops. Near bike rentals, bike paths and bus.
Recently finished third floor walk-up attic of a Colonial house. Very private space with lots of room to spread out (about 500 sq ft). Accommodates up to four people with a comfortable double bed and a comfortable futon. Shared bath (with very friendly, clean, and quiet graduate students). Wi-fi. Plenty of grounded outlets, shelves, and a desk. Nice space to work, relax, or just crash. The floors are old, rustic wood, so you might want slippers. Towels and bed linens provided.
The shower is shared with the household, but there is rarely ever any wait or hassle.
Guests typically do not use the kitchen, living room, or other common spaces, besides the upstairs bathroom. But there is ample room for hanging out in the large attic guest room, with the futon couch, and desk. It's a lovely space.
If you are coming for a football game, we hope that you have a great time! We ask that Airbnb guests do not bring additional people inside the house, and there is not space to tailgate. After 9pm, please close the doors quietly, walk softly, and keep conversations to a whisper while not in your room. This is our home and we ask that you please be considerate.
Parking on football days is tight. On game days I sell parking spots in my driveway for $25 each. The alternative is to park early on Friday night on the street when you can still get a spot and not move your car until after the game. (Early means 6 pm to get a spot with certainty, or 9-10 pm with less certainty and a good chance of walking several blocks.)
Kathryn will be happy to chat and answer any of your questions.
*There is no AC in the attic. There are fans in both windows creating a cross breeze in the summer, and a small heater for the winter.
-No shoes in the house.
-Please keep footsteps and conversation quiet, especially when house residents are sleeping below.
I am a sociologist studying the politics of global environmental change. I've lived in Brazil, La Paz, and Portugal, as well as both coasts of the United States. When I'm not working, I play fiddle with my friends and enjoy reading and walking in the arboretum, just minutes from the house. These days my life motto is to "live my yoga", which includes a contentment about the past and honesty about the present.
