The Hayloft at “ La Federiga” is a legacy of the agricultural world that remained unchanged from 1800 up to 1960, close to the historical heart of Florence (km 4,5 from the centre of the city)
“La Federiga” is a small group of houses situated in the area of Legnaia. Like the small villages San Quirico and Legnaia and their ancient churches, the hamlet of La Federiga rose up along one of the principle roads called Via Pisana. Our grandparents respectfully called it “strada maestra” (the main road) and it led off from Porta San Frediano, one of the gates of the fourteenth-century walls of Florence. Since Roman times, Via Pisana linked Florence to Pisa across the plains of the river Arno.
For the owner Isabella, an architect, the hayloft is a memento from her grandparents and it is situated within a garden, along with the owner’s house and the stalls, which she restored for use as her office.
Within this “green oasis”, the hayloft is sheltered from the summer heat and the noise of the street by an ivy-clad wall. A rare old strawberry vine creeps all around the door of the entrance. Fig-trees, diospyroskaki, carob trees and rosemary and sage bushes trim the path paved with the original stones.
Isabella has completely restored the two-storied hayloft and furnished it elegantly. A truly authentic experience of living in Florence not only as a tourist but like a true Florentine.

Isabella's profession as an architect is obvious in the creation of this beautiful environment. Quiet, private, yet accessible to the city center in ten minutes. The kitchen was stocked for breakfast and the garden was refreshing after a day in the city. Isabella is gracious, knowledgeable and friendly. A great value for the price. Will definitely return.

Isabella was very polite and she accepted our request in a short notice. She was very helpful at the check-in process. Many pros:The house was very clean and tidy. Isabella had for us a nice breakfast during our stay there with fruits, biscuits, coffee to prepare etc. The location was good, very close to the tram station "La Federiga" and in case of using a car always easy to find parking right outside the house. Small and only con that upstairs where the beds are located it was warm at night considering that the ambient temperature was about 30 degrees during the day.

I stayed for a whole month at Isabella’s home with my partner. It has been a very nice stay. Isabella is a kind, welcoming person and she’s very helpful if you need anything. The house’s description corresponds exactly to the one on airbnb. It is very cosy, nicely decorated and fully equipped. Also, it is very well connected with the city centre, there’s a tram stop opposite the house that will take you there in just 10 minutes. It has been a very positive experience overall!

J'y reviendrai !

Very good option to stay in Florence. Cosy little apartment with 2 floors. 1 mn walk to tram station to Sta Maria Novella & center. Isabella, a kind person, had prepared fresh fruits & breakfast stuff for our arrival. We will come again.

Grazie ancora! La aspettiamo all'Isola d'Elba! :)

My name is Isabella, I am an architect and I was born in the house facing the hayloft. When I was a child I spent most of my time on playing in the surrounding garden.
I wrote a small story of “La Federiga”, with old family photos to let you know the place in which lies the hayloft.
If you like it, I will be glad to be at your disposal to give you the best suggestions about works of art, gardens, villas, museums, uncommon itineraries of Florence and Tuscany.
I can show you boutiques selling handmade or vintage clothes and hats, old or modern jewels and small markets where you can taste and buy genuine Florentine products: chocolates, cheese, bread and delicatessen.
I will do my best to make your stay as much enjoyable as possible.
