Very well appointed studio apartment at the centre of the beautiful Catalan medieval village of Prats-de-Mollo in the Pyrenees close to the Spanish border (750m). The studio opens on to a private garden that is shared with eleven other apartments. Just yards away is a newly appointed cinema and within a minute or two are various shops, restaurants and super market.
The owners of "Maison Baxter" live in one of the twelve apartments which they service continuously around the year to maintain the best standards for all their many guests which are a mix of tourists and 'curists' - guests that stay specifically for the thermal health spa at La Preste, six kilometers further up the valley.
Each of our studio apartments is fully equipped for guests to be able to self-provide with complete comfort. This studio opens directly to a well maintained private garden at first floor level with tables and chairs and BBQ facilities. Each level has a washing machine. Fresh air drying is usually never a problem, but indoor facilities are available. Garaging can be booked within the building, but parking is safe and free throughout the village. Just five minutes walk the village opens its swimming pools to visitors during the months of July and August continuously monitored for safety by the village.
All guests are met upon arrival to introduce them to the household, their private apartment as well as to explain the whereabouts of the 'Office de Tourisme', shops, supermarkets etc. etc.. Many guests holiday here to enjoy the magnificence of the mountain walks as well as its remarkable wildlife throughout the forests and high peaks; we are happy to give as much support and advice as we are able. L'Office de Tourisme have available many adventurous walks of various levels of challenge for which they are available to map out to visitors.
The village has a cinema, a pharmacy, many restaurants, bars and shops. It is served by a remarkable bus service to Perpignan costing just one euro per trip together with all other train and bus journeys within the department. The Spanish border is a fifteen kilometer drive up to the mountain pass which then runs down to the town of Camprodon. To the east the twisty valley road leads down to the coastal resorts of Collioure, Argeles, St-Cyrien, Port-Vendres, Banyuls and others. The Costa Brava is just one hour's drive south.
"Maison Baxter" has a strict "no smoking" policy indoors. Respecting this request is important to avoid threatening the refundable deposit. We hope that all our guests respect the calm of the house. Although "Maison Baxter" happily allows small pets, animals are not permitted in the private garden which is open to guests to relax. Children are requested not to use the garden as a playground, particularly as the village offers extensive games facilities for all ages, such as tennis, basket ball, table tennis, swimming, football, forest adventure, walks, high wire climbing, fishing, extreme adventure etc. etc..
I am a young 72 year old that loves life and family. I am a ceramist that is always hoping to create new ideas through enjoying landscape and nature.
My wife and I are lucky enough to have found Prats-de-Mollo and its very friendly community that are passionate to be Catalan. The climate here in the Pyrenees is a pleasure after the UK and its permanent dampness. Having travelled extensively around France we have never regretted settling here in the eastern Pyrenees just up the Vallespir from the Mediterranean sea and very close to Spain. We are sure you will share our enthusiam for this medieval town.
