Our sustainable home was designed to share with friends and family. The Bunk room nestles under the main house, a private self contained space that shares the warm earth and timber tones of the home. Private courtyard and entrance to your retreat.
The bunk room is self contained and able to be used even when your hosts are away. Microwave, single burner, barbecue, tea and coffee making with your own fridge. There are cafes close by, many travel a great distance to "the Wye General" only 10kms from your door or the Kennett River Cafe and store only 3kms away. Lorne and Apollo Bay beckon . A secluded and almost private beach waits across the road. A haven for fishermen with a short 300m beach walk to a beach cove for swimming. Your hosts have 2 border collies who will be delighted to take you on local walks.
When we are home we will be delighted to meet you and share a bedroom in the main house. There is a bountiful garden that takes some work and we spend as much time in our home as possible, riding and cooking the seasonal delights from the organic garden.
Grey River is one of the quietest hamlets on the Great Ocean Road. The 10 residences here are weekenders. Set back off the Great Ocean Road by a service road the homes are secluded and protected geographically from the weather. The Northerly outlook of our house warms the home in winter, the sustainable design keeps it cool in summer and the garden thrives. With deep bush behind, surrounded by State park and an Ocean outlook 5 Great Ocean Road Grey River is a beautiful new home where you can relax and enjoy the peace with your family.
Grey River is isolated but able to be accessed by VLine from Melbourne to Geelong and coach to Apollo Bay. The coach will stop at Kennett River but it is not unknown to request of the driver for a drop at Grey River right by the door - but be prepared to walk if he can't . A car is preferable and we are definitely a bike friendly home.
If we are not at home we will make arrangements for you to access the Grey River Bunk Room.
Linen, towels, fresh coffee and breakfast cereal provided.
Guest have access to the self contained bunk room and garden
Gardening, health and fitness, sport is our business - feel free to roam in the garden with us or on your own. Early morning rides and runs are an option
Our home has been designed with an architectural and sustainable approach that is relaxing and will welcome you. Warmed by the wood boiler in winter that doubles to heat the steaming hot water for your showers in winter the space converts to a cool oasis in summer, water warmed by the sun. Our water falls from the sky and is captured and stored in our underground tanks right in front of you while our treatment plant returns the excess through filters back into the garden.
Grey River is a quiet place. The harmony only broken by the yapping of the dogs should a kangaroo or koala stray close to the garden. We expect you to relax, enjoy the space and use it as a base to discover the Otways. No smoking and pets are welcome but they must sleep outside where there is provision and shelter for them.
I grew up in Melbourne Australia and returned after a life as a professional cyclist in Europe. I now live in Grey River and Melbourne with my partner Annie. After retiring I worked in Sports media and now tourism. My job is to create amazing cycling travel experiences for my guests to the Grand Tours in Europe and at home here in Australia. My favorite place to ride - at home on the Great Ocean Road.
We are busy commuting from home to office, the dogs and Annie in residence at Grey River if I am away.
