Stay in your private guest room in a shared pleasant beach home. Private backyard with in-ground swimming pool and outdoor amenities. We're a welcoming academic couple, and the guest room is a study with lots of light, a comfortable bed and a desk.
This is a shared airbnb accommodation with host family. As a guest you have free use to in-ground swimming pool and outdoor amenities. The guest room is a study with lots of light, a comfortable bed and a desk. Note that you will share a single bath with the hosts. The house is a block from the beach right in Rockport village, an hour north of Boston.
Rockport is a picturesque New England coastal town that is defined by the ocean; it is quiet with lots of charm. Our house is steps from Front and Back Beach, and within a ten-minute walk from the village proper. Our home is an ideal launching point for a stay on Cape Ann.
We especially welcome European visitors who are on vacation!
We don't provide breakfast, but there is Nate's just a block or so away at Front Beach, which has an excellent breakfast menu.
wireless, shared bathroom, pool, front and backyard, driveway
Your room is integrated as part of the household, and we're totally flexible in terms of your interest in socializing. We respect your privacy, but if our time allows we more than welcome your presence.
I am an academic research librarian focusing on large-scale library information systems. My wife Rike is a professor of German language and literature at a nearby university. My academic background is history and anthropology, I did my doctoral work at UCLA and the Universität Göttingen in Germany. I am Quebecois (French-Canadian), I studied Ancient Greek as an undergrad, and can speak fluent German. I’ve lived, taught, and worked in Germany off and on for many years.
We’re active and enjoy ocean kayaking, biking (road and mtn), jogging, swimming, and travel. I’ve done a lot of long-distance bike touring in both Europe and North America. I’ve played guitar most of my life (singer-songwriter), love animals (I wanted to be a vet), and enjoy working with my hands, so much so that I built our house here in Rockport as a solo project (inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright).
I recently returned from a two-year stint working in Europe that included some 200,000 kilometers of flying (one day in Reykjavik and the next in Cagliari—a fascinating time!).
