Lovely guest room for one in comfortable and small home conveniently located close to the QEW (main freeway between U.S. and Toronto). This is an environmentally-friendly artist's home with a unique style. You will be warm and cozy in winter and cool as a cucumber in my very energy efficient home. Women guests preferred. No night owls please. A dog lives here.
The guest room has one good quality twin bed, a comfortable chair, bedside table, chest of drawers and laptop table. The room has a curtained casement window that opens easily for fresh air and the glass is frosted for privacy from the neighbouring house.
You can count on draft-free warmth and comfort in the winter and air-conditioning in hot summer months. I have whole house air cleaning. (Did you note that I have a dog?)
My home is 1 1/2 hours from Toronto, 20 minutes from Niagara Falls by car and about 25 minutes from Niagara-on-the-Lake. You can bring a bicycle on GO Transit and the St. Catharines stop is close to my house. There are also bike rental and delivery options (see Guidebook).
I am a 15-20 minute walk from downtown where there are restaurants and a farmers' market 3 days a week. Some food products can be purchased in a little mall down the street. A bigger mall is on the other side of the freeway - 15 minute walk.
I do not use toxic cleaning products etc. so this is a good place if you have allergies to them or are just, like me, sensitive to chemical smells. There are many green features to the house such as a tankless water heater which means you adjust the hot water temperature. My home is Bullfrog powered, lowering my home's emission footprint and supporting green energy.
Niagara is best known for its wineries and I am equidistant between the 2 major areas, Beamsville Bench to the west and Niagara-on-the-Lake to the east. There are great conservation areas and trails in the area including the Bruce Trail. Take a look at the Niagara Greenbelt Gateway website (you'll have to search, Airbnb doesn't allow URLs here.)
Brock University is about 10 minutes away by car. There is good professional theatre in St. Catharines and Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake is about a 25 minute drive. There is also quality music, literary and visual arts here. To get to Henley Rowing Course is 35 minutes by bus, 10 minutes by car and I can advise on different ways to get there by bike.
You will have access to the wireless internet.* We will share the bathroom, kitchen and dining area(s). In warmer weather, you are welcome to enjoy the garden and back room for sitting or dining or sit in the little front room. My kitchen is mid-renovation but fully functional with gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher and fridge.
*Please note I do not have unlimited internet. I expect guests to be reasonable with their internet usage.
Mature, women guests are preferred. I like to help and am happy to answer questions but I expect us both to go about our own business. I'm not a travel agent! But I do expect us to both extend common courtesies. My house is small so expect close quarters - the shared bathroom is between our bedrooms. This is my home - if you are looking for a hotel or b&b experience, please go there instead. I expect guests to be here either on business or with a leisure itinerary, I am uncomfortable when guests seem to have no reason for being in St. Catharines and burrow in my room for long periods. My home may be of particular interest to fellow artists and dharma practitioners and I have often hosted academics attending classes or conferences at Brock University. Take a good look at my Airbnb Guidebook for many places mentioned above.
I am 5 minutes in a car from Yoga by Sarah, Pilates Emporium and a large and lovely municipal swimming pool is not much farther away.
Only one guest please. No smoking. Please refrain from using cologne and scented products such as dryer sheets on your clothes. This is a quiet and restful house for quiet guests. Please remove your street shoes in the house. Thank-you!
