This villa is located in a private setting on an elevated lot overlooking the ocean. The patio, with its private pool is surrounded by lush jungle, with resident wildlife including monkeys, tucans and lizzards. Walk to the beach and local waterfall.
When we opened the doors to this villa I knew I wouldn't want to leave. I am not an early riser, but the excitement of hearing the birds and the monkeys outside had me looking forward to getting up early each morning to sit on the patio with a cup of coffee and watching and listening to all the wildlife around. It was the best of both worlds because with this immersion in a jungle surroundings there was also an amazing ocean view. We spent every evening with a beer or cocktail watching the sun go down out on the balcony and then listened as the jungle came to life after dark. The kitchen was well equipped for us to cook several meals there. The washer and dryer was a life saver after hiking trips. Communication with host was excellent and had quick responses. I would defined stay here again.
The house was plagued with cleanliness issues--we checked in to dirty countertops, dirty patio, misfiring shower heads, musty linens, and a washer full of rust mottled dirty linens and towels from previous guests--and an ongoing water problem when we were there. The water cut out one night right before my brother was going to shower and then again when we came home one night from a day of hiking to no running water for showers and we had another hike scheduled for the next day. It was pretty terrible because we ended up dipping in the pool to get the sweat off and sleeping with DEET still on our bodies and going straight to another hike the next morning as-is since the water still had not come back on the next morning. It was lucky that we both times had boiled the river water to fill two big bottles of water for drinking before we left for the day otherwise we wouldn't have had any drinking water either. There was also no hot water at all the entire time we were there and an email I sent management inquiring about this went unanswered. The hill is far too steep, rocky, and treacherous to walk down from unit 24 where we were to get out of the complex. Still a great location and well equipped overall, this house has great views and communication with management. Just wish they would address these issues better.
Hello Esther, sorry it has taken a while to get back to you and I very much appreciate your feedback. I have spoken with Dave about this and has he has pointed out to me as our unit was suddenly unavailable for your date he had to switch you to villa #24. However in any case, the cleanliness and maintenance of all the villas should certainly reflect the same and it sounds like there were definitely quite a few things missed. The water outage was a complex wide issue and certainly mis-timed. I also appreciate your comments regarding the accuracy of the description. I will improve on that. I hope your stay in the area was a great experience after all and I hope we can welcome you again one day with hopefully a better accommodation experience.
We loved this house! The location was five minutes from town, but you'd never know it. You drive into a gated community and find this comfortable home surrounded by lush jungle flora with an amazing view of the ocean. Its hard to see your neighbors, much less hear them. There is air conditioning that we never used because the sound of the ocean and birds was so relaxing and a cool breeze blew though the house's many screened windows. There was a sloth hanging out in a tree next to the porch and toucans giving us daily shows. The monkeys scurry through branches at sundown and iguanas sunbathe by the pool. We usually go on vacations and spend all day out but this place made us want to stay and enjoy it. I got up with the sun just to spot birds and stare at the view. All the comforts of home with the awe of camping.
The place was upscale and had amazing views of the ocean in the distance. The location is right in the jungle so sitting on the patio you have iguanas, different birds, very cool insects and even a sloth within arms reach. A car is necessary to get into the town but there is even a very local store less than 10 minutes down the road to get snacks and beer. Family oriented area but was welcoming to us 4 young guys. Dave the host was a highlight - very helpful, welcoming but not intrusive. He invited our group out for a day of activities and personally drove to the store with us to pickup a few things.
Let me start by saying I love Costa Rica! Upon arrival to Canto del Mar there was an issue with the unit that was quickly resolved by the property manager Dave. We unfortunately did not stay in Jan's unit that night but were easily moved to another unit on the property the next day for the remainder of our visit. The Canto deal Mar complex is amazing - secure, great location to beach and town, and monkeys and Toucans visit for breakfast and lunch. We will return many times in the future.
