Lovely Serene BD in Itzimna. Mérida
Lovely Serene BD in Itzimna. Mérida

Enjoy a quiet, cool and serene bedroom, next to a blooming terrace with pool, and a daily breakfast. Located on the north side of a culturally active neighborhood, XIX century architecture and with access to great transportation, 10 min. to downtown.

Casa Ransom is on a quiet street away from the traffic and city noises. Itzimna, houses the oldest church, late XIX mansion-homes, good diverse affordable - expensive restaurants, a small avant garde movie house, several good language schools, coffee shops, a diversified bookstore and two Wi-Fi parks. Excellent transportation available only a block away, to any place in the city, the beach, or towns.

The guest room is a privileged space, a queen size bed and hammock, private bathroom, with a step out to terrace area and pool. Breakfast (veggie/ vegan available) will be served on terrace during summer time and in dinning room in winter. One may enter through the garden area, or main entrance. The private spaces are off limits (living room, studio and bedrooms). Parking is available in front of the house, a quiet, residential, spacious street. Good laundry and dry cleaning services nearby. The room has a small fridge!

I´d be delighted to share many of the great places in the city, in the Peninsula, suggest day plans, favorite sites or events. The guest room is located on the other side of the terrace allowing for real privacy. Amenities: a cooking experience, specialized tours and spanish clases.

A lovely evening walk, 45 minutes, to or from downtown, on Montejo is highly recommended, stopping at the 100-year-old ice cream parlor!

Sorry, no pets allowed since I have two lovely dogs. No smoking, except in the front of the house. Please, one must shower off perspiration and suntan lotion-oil before getting in the roofed pool. Due to our tropical co-existing insects, preferably no food in the bedroom. Thank you!

Maureen is a wonderful hostess. Very knowledgeable about the history of yucatan and Mexico. She is such a sweet beautiful soul willing to help in any way she can. Her dogs are such loves, they helped us forget our animals that we were missing back home. Her space is so serene and beautiful. We loved it there!

Maureen was a delightful host. She made us feel right at home. The bus into "centro" is at the end of the block so very convenient. We also walked into town on Sunday when the locals are out enjoying the day as well. There are several restaurants in the area. We hired her for sightseeing and she is very knowledgeable. We had some diet restrictions which she was able to work with and still delivered delicious breakfasts with traditional ingredients.

Maureen is a lovely hostess. Her professional background in cultural resources and outreach/education comes in very handy for visitors! She was great help suggesting sightseeing, transit, eateries, shopping. She often knew of both higher and lower cost options. I was very glad to get to her know her a bit personally as well. She lived in the US for several years, so she appreciates the differences/commonalities and has an unique perspective. I felt like a personal guest in her home, not just a casual renter. I was staying a week to attend a professional conference about a mile away and it was easy to catch the combi back and forth, or to the city center, with just a little coaching the first time or two. It can be flagged down just at the corner. The neighborhood is comfortable and safe -- not too fancy, not too basic. It is a residential neighborhood, with a historic church a few blocks away. For basic purchases, there are convenience stores a few blocks away on a busier street. There is a fantastic torteria/taqueria (excellent food and low prices, not fancy surroundings) just across the street, open from late morning until mid-afternoon. There is a cafe-type establishment around the corner that shows films most evenings and has a friendly clientele that seemed mostly-college-aged. I was so busy that I didn't have time to check out other neighborhood businesses a few blocks away, but I think these two are highlights. I would definitely stay with Maureen again!! Even if you don't stay with her, I highly recommend the Museo de Arte Popular, which would not exist without her leadership (but the location is wrong on some maps, now a yellow building facing the Parque de la Mejorada, not a block away).

Maureen's place is everything you need and more. The bedroom is very comfortable: it has a great bed, desk and chair, mini fridge, fan, air conditioner, nightstand, and a big wardrobe. It is located in the back of the house and it has its own entrance, which is great for privacy. It also has its own bathroom. Besides that, the rest of the house is also great: a kitchen with everything one needs, a living room with couches and tv, and even a pool right by the bedroom outside! Her two dogs, Max and Tina, are adorable and very well-behaved. Maureen is an incredible host -- she went out of her way way to help me and to make sure I had a great stay: she drove me to the grocery store, walked with me around the neighborhood to show where everything was, and provided me with key information about the city. She is very knowledgeable about Mayan history and about the region in general. She took me and 3 friends on a tour to see the salt mines, the flamingos and the beach. You won't regret staying with her!!!
Thank you Silvia, I enjoyed meeting you and I know you will be very successful with your research project. Fica ochimo!!

I stayed with Maureen for a month and felt totally at home. The room was comfortable and totally private, opening onto the light, airy patio. Maureen became a good friend - she knows a lot about the area and the people and can help out with any information you need. She gave me a tour of the local 'colonia' on the first evening and showed me where to get the bus, take any laundry, eat, drink and shop. The house is shared with two dogs - Max and Tina - who also became great friends! The breakfasts were sufficient and healthy and Maureen also offered me the option of sharing an evening meal whenever I wanted, which I did on numerous occasions. I got to know the area well - it's very convenient for the centre of town as well as the outer 'colonias' with an excellent bus service. I was very lucky to find such a superb 'home from home' for my lengthy stay in Merida and I will definitely go to Maureen's again when I next visit.

A beautiful house and a wonderful woman ! Maureen, you are the best. Don't change. Your hospitality and your kindness touched us.
Thank you Christine... I enjoyed meeting you and David, two great souls full of life and life sharing. You are always welcome if you choose to come back to Mexico.

Maureen immediately made us feel welcome by taking us out for a walk in the neighbourhood to familiarize us with the local stores, cafes, bus stops, and other points of interest. Her house is located close to the the beautiful Paseo Montejo and a short bus ride to the Plaza Grande in the historic area. The room, which is separate from the house for just the right amount of privacy, was clean and comfortable with a lovely shaded garden patio right outside our door. We felt quite relaxed and at home at all times.
