Ours is a log lodge built by owner in the year 2000. It is 90 sq meters on 2 floors with 3 bedrooms and sleeps 7(8) adults. It sits on the lower slopes of a small mountain with a magnificent view over river, sea and mountains afar.
Gorgeous Views! Karl's place is in one of the most beautiful natural settings and we never got tired at watching the light play over the steep mountain above and the river below, with distant views of Snæfellsjökull. Sitting out on the deck, you honestly don't know which way to look. The views from the dining and living areas are equally spectacular. It is a great base for exploring western Iceland. The house was very clean and everything worked perfectly (wifi, stove, washer & dryer) and there was great water pressure in the shower. Where we had questions about anything, the house manual explains operations clearly and Karl is easy to contact. The upstairs bedrooms were very comfortable. The open stairs make a sharp twist onto the balcony, but Karl has provided a strong gate to keep anyone from falling in the night. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to eat in, or there are two excellent restaurants in Borgarnes (we especially liked the vegetarian buffet at the Settlement Center and Englendingavik). Highly recommended!
Stayed here with my family of 4 with adult girls for 3 nights and we absolutely enjoyed it. The location is stunning with the mountain at the backdrop and it makes it more dramatic when it's sun kissed by the setting sun. We enjoyed using the hot tub while the sun was setting and it gave you the feel of the Icelandic charm. The house has a good heating system and abundant water supply with hot and cold. Kitchen is well equipped.
The setting for this home is just magnificent. There is plenty of hiking and outdoor activity right in the area, but the real pleasure was watching the tidal waters teaming with waterfowl. And, being here the first week in July, we got to see the midnight sun set behind the mountains across the valley at the same time as it began to brighten the sky a little to the east. Perfect setting. And oh yes, dealing with Karl was a breeze, and the summer home is lovely and well thought out for your every need.
Everything about Vindheimar was wonderful. From the amazing views of water to the north and cliffside to the south, to the geothermally-fed hot tub, to the well-stocked kitchen, to the shockingly comfortable couch-bed (we had 5 people in our stay). Unlike places that are purely rental properties, this is clearly the owners' well-loved home. If I'm around Borgarnes again, I hope this home is available, because I'd gladly stay here again for a longer time. We were sad to leave after only 3 nights.
