Typical cycladic blue and white villa in the hills of Andros overlooking the sea, surrounded by fruit and olive trees.
We rent the house for full weeks only normally from Saturday to Saturday.
The house is about 100 years old, and has thick stone walls that keep the interiors nice and cool. It is surrounded by a garden with olive trees and mature fruit trees, and there are panoramic views of the sea and surrounding islands. This is our family holiday home that we have lovingly restored over the years, converting stables to bedrooms, and creating a comfortable living space, whilst maintaining many of the original features.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, both en-suite; one has a double bed and the other has twin beds. On the first floor there is a third bedroom with French doors opening out on to a large roof terrace that shares the same spectacular views as the main terrace below.
The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, electric oven and hob, toaster, and filter-coffee machine, and all of the glasses, cups and cutlery you will need. There is a large garden surrounding the house, and depending on the season you can pick your own figs, lemons and pomegranates. We also have our own olive oil that a kind neighbour presses for us, and jams made with fruit picked from neighbouring orchards.
There are three large terraces. The main terrace area has table and chairs for eating, and a stone bench with cushions all around the periphery for lounging. The roof terrace above has a couple of sun loungers and is a good place to escape with a book if you want a bit of time to yourself.
The best thing about the house is being surrounded by nature, and the view of the sea, and the neighbouring islands. You will need a car if you stay here to get to the shops and to one of Andros’s beautiful beaches. From the house you can go on great hikes and visit the local taverna – a low key affair with the best food on the island (in my humble opinion!).
Our villa is a perfect hideaway if you are looking to get away from it all for a few days. There is no airport here so it never gets too busy; most tourists are Athenians with holiday homes they visit on the weekend. Over the years we have had some great fun here with friends, as well as some relaxing times with our parents and brothers and sisters. If you are looking for a deluxe villa with all the trimmings such as plunge pool and air conditioning you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for something authentic with heaps of charm then this is the place.
The entire house and garden is at your disposal.
You will be met at the port by a friend who lives on the island who can help you arrange car hire and then show you up to the house.
Bookings of one week minimum or financial equivalent.
Living in Geneva for work. I work for an NGO as a video producer. I love living here because it is so easy to jump in the train and move around Europe. I prefer beach over pistes but have been getting in to skiing while I am here nonetheless...
